Nicklas Lidström: Counting down!

Nicklas Lidström is getting closer and closer to the big thousand!

With 24 games to go, he's got 981 points!

19 points to go!

When comes the milestone?

If it happens away, would he get a cheer from the home fans?
Does he get a diploma or something?

24 games, 19 points. Who will win the race?!

Sometime next season. I know, I'm really going out on a limb here.

A more interesting question is when and even if anyone else is going to do it.

Imagine if he hits 1000 during the opening game in Sweden next season.

EDIT: Beaten to it
It's an impressive accomplishment, that's for sure.

If he continues the offensive outburst he's been on in the last three weeks or so, he'll do it this season easily.

Yeah, he'll do it. Detroit can score goals like no ones business and I am sure Lidstrom will be fed the puck by his supporting Swedes.

As far as defensemen? I would think a healthy Green would be a lock.

If Detroit's powerplay keeps going like it is, he could get there near the end of the season. But the real question is will Chris Chelios get to 1000 points? He's at 948.

as long as he stays healthy...

Didn't he miss two or three weeks last season with an injury?

Are Potvin and Bourque the only other defensemen with a thousand points and a career +/- over 400?

think he missed 5 or 6 games, which is the longest absence of his whole career...

A couple of weeks over his vast career isn't significant time.

I think he's only missed somewhere around ~40 regular season games in his career. Most of that due to end of the season rest.

Yes, he missed six games last season due to a semi-cheap shot. The longest he's ever missed in his entire career.

Lidstrom has played in 98% of the games he could. That's pretty durable.

He has missed 24 games over 16+ seasons. Yes that is pretty durable.

I don't.

If Green were to average a PPG and 78 GP over the next 10 seasons, he'd still fall roughly a hundred points short.
