Martin McGuire on CKAC told that is was pure SPECULATION at the moment.

There is a war between RDS and CKAC haha

EDIT : Now, Villeneuve said that it's not true (no confirmation that Gainey and Kovy agreed). He called the communication relationist from the Habs.

This is a win win for Gainey. I am surprised some of you see fault in him for doing this.

If Kovalev comes back and and plays like a madman that's a plus for the Habs. If he lays an egg he's gone and we know there is a demand for him. The guy needed this kick in the ass to let him know he is not above the team and they will go on without him if need be.

Gainey stood up and showed everyone he is in charge and the players don't run the show here. I am glad he is our GM and look forward to seeing a better Kovy on Saturday.

What do you mean, sports fan ? It was almost common knowledge he'd play at least one more game in a habs uniform.

everytime kovy is in hot water, he always come back better.

I had no choice anyway to save his pride, season, contract and career.

You don't boot a player like Kovalev off the team because of a sub-par season. He had a very good 2005-2006 season, an excellent 2007-2008 season and there is still time to save 2008-2009. Whether you like his style or not, he is a gamebreaker and should be part of the team unless a trade that offers us a return that makes it worth it is there. Bob Gainey wants a standard and that's why he took him out to talk to him. I don't see how the habs would be a better team by booting Kovalev out of town. Addition by substraction works sometimes, but I don't find it applicable in this case; far from that.

I also suggest you set the bar a little lower for yourself. If Kovalev is your definition of mediocre, then hockey players in general must be pretty bad to you.

the best is when he dekes someone in the neutral zone and the hole crowd just goes crazy, some people need to watch other NHL games

You boot a guy off the team because he just isnt trying. I dont care if scores 5 goals. He just dosent move, he dosent shoot, he takes terrible penalties, and not a few dekes through his legs or fancy passes will change my opinion.

His play all year has been mediocore. Himself as a skilled player is not relevant. He is playing poorly all over the ice but because he can make a couple of nice moves, nobody cares. Hence why i say "adopting mediocrity"

Yesterday wasn't RDS, it was site where Marc DeFoy from JDM said he has a russian source. I prefer trusting Dreger who is an insider and actually talked to Kovalev.

I'm not one to throw a player under the bus but I actually feel that the dynamic of the team is better without Kovalev - whether that is true or not is obviously something only the players can confirm.

Guess we'll see.

I prefer the team without Kovalev though.

And those observations are exactly why Gainey took those unique measures with him. I don't believe in taking a player off the team for those reasons, especially someone with Kovalev's talent. I believe in Gainey's approach, sit down, talk to him, whatever, let him know clearly how you feel about his play and try to change things up. Don't just throw him out, it makes no sense and doesn't help the team at all.

Bergeron has sources now?..lol

I find it funny how they all seem to be throwing things out there according to their ''sources'', which apparently are always reliable.

They all sound like a bunch of Eklund.
