Paul Ranger and Andrej Meszaros out rest of the season
The Lightning announced this afternoon that both Paul Ranger and Andrej Meszaros - the No. 1 and No. 2 defensemen on the depth chart - will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on March 3.
Each player will be operated on by James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama, to repair labrum tears in their left shoulders. Dr. Andrews performed a similar surgery on captain Vinny Lecavalier and Ranger last year, although Rangerís procedure was on the right shoulder last April. The recovery time is expected to take six months, which means both should be ready for the start of training camp in September.
A weak defense is now even weaker, add the fact that Smith and Kolzig are injuried (even if Smith is on his way back) and that some veterans (althou crappy) like Malik and Heward are out, then we don't have much left. So expect some scoring parties against us..
..but, as the season is over anyway, it gives the injuried guys a chance to recover and some younger players will get plenty of icetime, like Smaby, Wishart, Mihalik.
Thought it may be newsworthy if people wonder what happend to Rangy and Mez.
Todd Harvey, Adam Oates and Darren Puppa, you are all missed in the game of hockey!
