I.E. who needs another fan who can't make up their own mind on who they like.

If you were a huge hockey fan you would gravitate to whatever team(s) you like. It's pretty simple: watch games.

If you want a team that is one of the best every year, Pick either the New Jersey Devils or the Detroit Red Wings. You`ll be very happy as a hockey fan.

Don`t take anyones advice though. Watch a bunch of Games and eventually, you will fall in love with a certain team or player.

Sorry to tell you, but it shouldn't be much of a decision in the first place. Just keep watching as much hockey as you can and you'll eventually develop a liking towards some teams more than others... Just go with that.

if you need to ask somebody for advice on who to cheer for, then you shouldn't be cheering for any team.

That's like asking a stranger who you should get married to.

Alternatively, you could just watch a few hockey games and see how you feel. There are many reasons to cheer for a team, from favorite players or even favorite colors.

Watch as many games as possible. Look for teams whos style of play you like or for players you like. You could just follow a favorite player, doesn't really matter what team you like as long as you enjoy watching the games.

I would suggest you to support the same team as me but it depends of what kind of fan you are

Pessimist?
Knee-jerk reacting fan?
So called "realist" ?
Optimist?
Equilibrium?

Maybe your home team?

Just because you watch the NHL doesn't mean you can't be a bigger fan of the UK Elite League.

I love Australian Football and try to watch as much as I can, but I'm really hard pressed to root for anyone in the AFL. However, when it comes down to amateur hour, I'm my own favorite player and my team is my own favorite team.

For hockey and few other sports, the favorites have always been there from the start, though. I knew I was a Red Wings fan before I ever saw an NHL game. Back then it was kind of hard to follow NHL here in Finland. It all started when I read an article about Yzerman in the mid/late 80s and just grew from there...

everyone thats gonna suggest a team for you is obviously gonna suggest their team....and why would you start to support a team simply by asking on a message board??? Since your not familiar with the NHL, start watching some games, and maybe you'll start to get into a certain team....

Pick who you like to watch.

If I had to pick a team to cheer for(excluding my obvious favorite) I'd go with the Kings. Young team that keeps on improving and you can feel proud in a couple years when they are a real force in the playoffs.

My suggestion: watch games on TV or Online feed on www.atdhe.net and see what team you get hooked on.

If you're looking for the most exciting teams with exciting young players that are playoff bound:
Washington
Chicago
San Jose
Detroit
Boston

If you're looking to support a team with a lot of history (The Original 6 teams).
Montreal (Most storied franchise in the NHL, 24 Stanley Cups)
Boston (ewww)
Toronto (i suggest u dont)
NY Rangers
Chicago
Detroit

If you're looking for consistant good performing teams every year:
Detroit
New Jersey
San Jose (Regular season only)

If you're looking for a team with very passionate and loyal fans base that will sell out even if the team is doing bad:
Montreal
Toronto
Calgary
Edmonton
Vancouver
NY Rangers
Philadelphia
Minnesota

If you're looking for a team with exciting young superstars:
Atlanta - Kovalchuk
Washington - Ovechkin HM: Semin, Backstrom, Green
Pittsburgh - Malkin, Crosby
Detroit - Datsyuk, Zetterberg HM: Hossa
Philadelphia - Richards HM: Carter
Tampa Bay - Lecavalier HM: St-Louis

If you like cheering for underdog teams who give a 110% effort every game:
Florida
Columbus
Los Angeles

If you would like to cheer for my team.....
Montreal Canadiens, Go Habs Go!!!

But still. Watch these teams play and see which 1 team you just can't get enough of.

If that's your top 3, I'd probably choose the Kings. I have no explanation, but they're my favorite of that bunch.

If you want an up and coming team that's finally become a playoff contender, the Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, Ohio) might float your boat.

They're 6-0-1 in their last 7, 6-2-1 in February, and 30-23-6 overall.

We've got several dynamic rookies in the system making their marks. Derick Brassard was Rookie of the Month in October & was the rookie points leader before a season ending injury in December. Jakub Voracek and Nikita Filatov have looked pretty good this year.

And then there's goalie Steve Mason. Mason followed Brassard's ROTM title by earning it back-to-back himself. He seems to be the leading candidate for the Calder trophy (Rookie of the Year) & some people have him in contention for other trophies as well.

We also have a cannon we shoot off when we score a goal at home. You get free chili and can participate in a goofy chant when we score 3 goals at home, too. That's cool, right?

The thing is i do watch nhl but nobody really grabs my attention.it could be due to the fact that the other sportsteams i support and have season tickets for are Birmingham city(football) family support them.
Coventry blaze-my uncle coaches them.
im not used to just watching nhl games and becoming passionate about them

Edit: This was in response to a post by NyQuil. User deleted his post.

NyQuil you might want to do the same...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2001

From 2001 to 2009:

Montreal has sold out every game since the 2005-2006 season.
And if you look at previous years, where Montreal was poor to horrendous as a team, you're averaging over 20k fans a game. In EVERY other NHL Arena, those are sellouts, It's not our fault we have the arena with the most capacity.
