It's SJ's 1st round pick. They would still have their own.

Even so, I can't believe that they would be buyers at this point. Based on their record, they'll need to win about 21 of their last 25 games to have a good shot at the playoffs. I can't imagine adding Comrie and Campoli would get them close to that.

Guess Ottawa needed the forward to replace Alfredsson.
Campoli gives the Sens some depth on the blueline.
Its an extreme overpayment on the Sens part.

I am guessing the Senators will turn around and trade Comrie for a Second rounder at the deadline, makes no sense that they would trade for him becuase he is a UFA at season's end otherwise.

I don't get this trade at all, if it really did happen...

the Sens are 13 pts out of a playoff spot right now, coming off 2 losses in a row, with 2 teams that are sitting 9 and 10 pts ahead of them, that are also out of playoff spots... there is no way that the Sens are anything more than HUGE longshots to make the playoffs at this point.

Why would you give any value to a UFA like Comrie?

otherwise it's Campoli for a 1st rounder... even the last pick in the 1st round should still be a good pick in what's been described as a deep draft. Is Campoli really worth that much? You'd think they could land a better dman for that price.

I'll be the first to admit I have not seen much of the Islanders. I was thinking less about Campoli than I thought that Snow would have been able to get more for Comrie. But I guess a 1st for Comrie and Campoli could be good. I'm not familiar enough with the Islanders depth to know if they have defensive prospects that can step up or not.

I don't think this is such a horrible deal for Ottawa, mainly because I think Campoli's value is a 2nd rounder. So, a slight overpayment for the typically overinflated prices this time of year, and Comrie.

I like this deal as an Islander fan, but feel we gave up a decent young player.

Good move for both teams.

Extreme overpayment?

I wouldn't call it an extreme overpayment. Perhaps the 30th overall pick is considered steep to some on HFBoards, but is normal currency in the NHL.
