I don't get this trade at all, if it really did happen...
the Sens are 13 pts out of a playoff spot right now, coming off 2 losses in a row, with 2 teams that are sitting 9 and 10 pts ahead of them, that are also out of playoff spots... there is no way that the Sens are anything more than HUGE longshots to make the playoffs at this point.
Why would you give any value to a UFA like Comrie?
otherwise it's Campoli for a 1st rounder... even the last pick in the 1st round should still be a good pick in what's been described as a deep draft. Is Campoli really worth that much? You'd think they could land a better dman for that price.
Because Spezza will be traded next and for a nice package that could include things like perhaps a goalie, help on the wing, and a higher 1st round pick???
I love a trade like this because the so-called 'experts' on this board get blown out of the water. Imagine if someone actually posted this as a trade proposal...man he would be attacked and maligned and made fun of to no end. It just goes to show that no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors in the NHL
I totally agree. Can't see why everybody is heaping abuse on Murray.
The value in the trade is pretty fair IMO, but a lot of Sens fans don't understand why their (non-playoff) team is giving up a 1st for Comrie and Campoli. If they were a few key pieces away from making a serious run at the Cup, it would make much more sense.
Have to hand it to Gainey for setting the bar with Schneider
Not that I want to get into the Antropov silliness again (and not that it is relevant to this thread), but I actually think the Leaf fans posting about big Nik have been pretty realistic (with most expecting a 2nd rounder + prospect deal).
