Bobby Ryan for Jordan Staal

Bobby Ryan for Jordan Staal

I searched for threads containing these guys because I didn't want to do any dead horse beating. What I found was a thread discussing these to directly back in November and wanted to see if opinions have changed. Back then, most seemed it wasn't a good deal from both sides.

Both Anaheim and Pittsburgh could be a move away from securing a playoff spot and I'd assume, neither would want to sacrifice their future and instead make a move that could make them better this year and next. Add to that, I continue to read about how Crosby lacks that scoring winger and how Staal is a model of an Anaheim player, the move seems to make sense.

Staal is capable of being a solid #2 center in this league. He and Getzlaf would be one heck of a 1-2 punch with a combination of size and skill that would be hard to match by any team.

Ryan has shown his offensive abilities and paired with Crosby could be down right frightening.

Why would Anaheim trade a potential 100 point power forward for a 2nd line center? I mean all Ryan has done since he's been in the league is be almost a PPG player. Staal's biggest accomplishment is 29 goals his rookie year with a 22% shooting percentage (fluke?). He's a great defensive player, but cmon, this is just absurd.

Also, why would the Ducks wait all this time to see what the player they picked right after Crosby could do, and you want them to trade him to go play with Crosby?

Pens would defiantly have to add to Staal, but it could be a deal that helps out both teams.

Maybe if Staal somehow made 2 carbon copies of himself then maybe Pitt could pry Ryan out of Anaheim.

Horrible for the Ducks. Ryan is going to be a stud in this league.

Pretty sure Shero would get laughed at, spit upon and hung up on if he proposed this. Ryan >>> Staal

Pens would obviously need to add to the deal if they wanted to deal Staal for Ryan....as for what the Ducks need, who knows?

Maybe Staal, Goligoski and a pick for Ryan or something.

Not sure this helps out ANA. They need top tier talent - which Ryan is, and Staal might still develop into. I think that people forget he's only 20/21.

Ryan's just got mad skills, and Staal doesn't. That doesn't make Staal a bad player, but I'd put his upside significant lower than Ryan at this point, even considering the intangibles and all around game.

At the LEAST you'd have to start at Staal, Whitney, 1st considering Ryan's age and point production so far for a #2 overall pick. With some added pieces of a deal coming from Ana.

With Ryan emerging at RW, i'd think the Pens would be more inclined to ask about a Staal+ deal for Perry. But I don't see the Ducks trading their young core, even though Staal would be a nice fit there as a 2nd line center.

The Ducks were doing better before Selanne came back from injury. They need to keep Ryan.

The ducks get robbed massively. There is no way Bobby Ryan is getting traded.

No way, no how. We will NOT trade Ryan, he's among our untouchables along with Getzlaf and Perry. Murray would be hung, drawn, and quartered if he made this trade.

So no, we wouldn't do this deal.

My god. If this deal was proposed at the start of the year everyone would be on the opposite fence. It's a lot closer than people are making it out to be, but Pittsburgh would have to throw in somebody like Whitney to make it work.

I think it's gonna be hard for us to get an equal value winger around Staal or Whitney's age right now. Most likely a deal would only be done with teams out of the playoff race so that limits possibilities for us. Look at the teams out of the race and see how many have young wingers signed long term that they would trade us for a #2 center and a top 4 defenseman.
I'm beginning to think more and more we are going to end up making smaller deals for a vet winger or two for prospects/picks.
