Vancouver Canucks @ Toronto Maple Leafs -2/21/09 - Who's That Bald Guy?

Quote:
As Mats Sundin prepares to make his first ever appearance at Air Canada Centre with a visiting team, it's worth remembering that he never wanted to make such a return in the first place.

It was just about this time a year ago when the stressed-out Swede was telling anyone who would listen that he couldn't imagine playing for any NHL team other than the Toronto Maple Leafs. Interim GM Cliff Fletcher wanted Sundin to waive his no-trade clause but the team's longtime captain couldn't bring himself to do it.

That tumultuous period is believed to have damaged relations between Sundin and the team, opening the door for him to eventually sign in Vancouver after several months of soul searching.

So now he returns Saturday as a member of the Canucks, and insists there are no lingering feelings of bitterness.

''Not really,'' Sundin said after practice in Ottawa on Friday. ''It's an unfortunate situation at the deadline and it wasn't a fun thing to go through it, but that's a part of this business.

Welcome back Sundin. I'd give you a standing O if I was there.

This gon be some deep **** right here mane. Mats Sundin, playing for some other team. It is happening, yeah. Let's see what he gon do what he gon look like. He might take all the faceoffs home tonight.... well, for the visitors I mean...

I don't luv dat dude now more. But I love my memories of him, playing for the Leafs. Let's see if we gon cry, or even laugh. It's just so David Lynch weirdo again right here mane....

As long as the nucks win in regulation I'm good, could care less whether the crowd applauds or boos Sundin to be completely honest. BTW can anybody confirm that Luongo will start tommorow.

Baring injury or an extreme back to back situation, Luongo will pretty much always start.

Looking forward to the game, the big thing I've noticed with Sundin is the impact he's had on Kesler. Ever since the big guy started playing he has seemed to have taken Kesler under his tutelage and helped turned him into one of our best forwards. I honestly think that alone has made him worth signing.

If all things go well (health and a good playoff run) I'm hoping he re-signs with the Nucks for one more season. He's really had a wonderful impact for our team, despite the tough first stretch of games when he was regaining his form.

Whats the over/under on a Mats hat-trick tomorrow? Over 50% or Under 50% chance that mats will hit the trick?

Mats Sundin has handled himself with class throughout his tenure here so he deserves a long standing O, return class with class. I know if I was there, I would give him one for sure. He is still my favourite player in the NHL, nobody even comes close. I am still going to cheer for the Leafs, but I still hope Mats does well.

I hope Mats gets booed relentlessly. I probably would be indifferent to cheering or booing him if he played for any team besides Vancouver (ok and Montreal/Ottawa for that matter). But here's hoping we lose!

Good to hear, I always enjoy watching Roberto in goal.

I've got it at 50/50 Burke tries to upstage the Sundin return by making a trade 2 hours before the game. Mats will be forgotten in all the trade talk, and BB will be in all the interviews.

That's what RW has been saying since Tuesday, and he played backup for Pogge yesterday so I don't think his hip/groin "discomfort" will keep him out of the net.

Btw did anyone notice that? All the news outlets seemed to report he had discomfort in his hip and got a MRI on it.. but in one of RW's interviews he said it was groin discomfort so they did a MRI on his groin and found it structurally sound. Tosk being all mysterious, I wanted more info, now I have it, it's not really any of your business, lala implying I have an injury when both my GM and coach are outright saying I don't have anything more than discomfort.

I hate conflicting info.

That would be an intelligent move the human being. I will see if that happens mane. This life is a very interesting place. I'm seeing thangs and smelling thangs.

Welcome back greatest ever, classiest Leaf and face of the franchise for 13 years playing with Jonas Freaking Hoglund .

My favourite Leaf all time.

If I was there, I wouldn't sit down the whole game. He'd get a 60 minute standing ovation!
