The once "Mighty" Ducks going to miss playoffs?

They were in 4th place in the west in early december and all of the sudden they fallen down to 9th. It seems like the losses will continue to pile up until they fall to 10th or 11th place. They have a horrible points percentage (21st in league) and they have been losing to teams at the bottom of the standings. What has happened to them besides the obvious? I mean on paper they shouldnt be this bad. Will they revive or miss the playoffs this year?

Though if Burke was still the GM, you can bet he'd have made some moves to try and change things whereas Murray got Mike Brown and Sheldon Brookbank. There is enough talent to make the playoffs comfortably.

I think they might turn it around still. They looked pretty good tonight, despite losing 5-2.

Seems fans of other teams know that better than Ducks fans, funnily enough.

Ducks do not simply have enough talent to make the play-offs. And Burke is responsible for that fade. Bryzgalov for nothing, McDonald for Weight, played that gamble with Niedermayer who is worse than average right now, signed Selanne who is too old to compete... this list continues. He did exactly the same things in Vancouver and they just started to recover from that wise management.

The Ducks still have a fantastic core. Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan and Kunitz are nothing to be upset about.

A combination of having no defensive depth, terrible goaltending and a complete lack of passion is why they are that bad.

It all falls on Giguere IMO. Sometimes he dominates whole seasons and other times he's a liability for a whole season. Reminds me of Khabibulin or Theodore.

It can be yes. What that has to do with your post eludes me, though.

Lets. Starting with this gem: "signed Selanne who is too old to compete..".

-42 games, 18+17=35, full season pace about 35+35=70, signed for 2.625M$.

Or maybe this: "Niedermayer who is worse than average right now".

-Niedermayer led all defensemen in scoring in January and was named the 2nd star of the month among all NHL players.

Wanna know what those numbers are? They are point totals of the Canucks during Burke's tenure. He took one of the bottom dwellers of the league and made them one of the best.

You, again brilliantly, summarized his tenure there like this: "they just started to recover from that wise management."

I'm not particularly impressed by your performance.

Ducks have a lot of player that will be UFA this summer. Mtl has a boatload of UFA next summer and their situation is not that great lately (even before today ) Coaches seems to be having a tough time managing 10+ guys fighting to renew their contracts.

Yeah, well, guess what...the Ducks won a Cup. And afterall, that's what every game is about.

So if some of you think we should feel sorry for the Ducks, and their fans...well, then, good luck getting your cup because now the win seems pointless.
