Wasn't he on re-entry over a week ago? Or was he placed on re-entry AGAIN?

Exactly. We have a few guys banged up on the Wings, notably Modin and Chimera, but also defenseman Ole Kristian-Tollefsen. We're short of wings and I suppose they don't have anybody they want to bring up from Syracuse for various reasons.

I figure Gratton's a rental.

He's a center. Flagger, you might be thinking of JOSH Gratton, the winger.

Good depth move. Big guy, can win face-offs and kill penalties.

Tampa must have been asked to pull him up again by another team.

Well...there's the veteran center who can play 15 minutes a night that Columbus was looking to add via trade route...guys likes Halpern and Morrison are probably no longer in the picture for Columbus...this is easier for them than trying to make a trade. Gratton only costs them money.

For what it's worth:

Quote:
General manager Scott Howson said the move would not prevent the Jackets from searching for another center before the trade deadline.

No, he's not signed for next season; however, if he was, Tampa would be on the hook for the remainder of the current contract.

The Jason Williams move has paid off so far...maybe this one works for them as well.

I like what the Jackets are becoming, I wonder if they're gonna do anything come trade deadline.

Chris Gratton can still play in the NHL, maybe not in an offensive role, but he's a good third or fourth line center. It's nice to see him getting claimed as Tampa clearly had no use for him.

Because Gratton was put on re-entry waivers, the remaining half of this contract now becomes a Tampa cap hit right?

He had been down in Norfolk, and so not counting for the cap. It'd be kind of interesting if Tampa wanted his contract gone so bad, they'd take the hit.

He is solid at face-offs too. We just had no space for him, but a solid third or fouth line center

I don't know if it changes much of anything. At this point in his career Gratton won't solve Columbus' problems. I'm sure they're still in the hunt for a center to play with Nash.
