5 Things To Know About Tonight's Game

1. The Florida Panther have posted a 13-5-3 mark since Jan. 1, earning points in 16 of their last 21 games and currently sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 66 points. Only three clubs (New Jersey, Detroit and Washington) boast a better record since Jan. 1. The Panthers play their final game of a five-game homestand tonight against the Boston Bruins. After this evening's contest the Panthers begin a five-game road trip with a game in Boston on Tuesday, Feb. 24, before playing the NY Rangers (Feb. 26), New Jersey Devils (Feb. 28), Washington Capitals (Mar. 1) and the Atlanta Thrahsers (Mar. 3).

2. D Jay Bouwmeester ranks first in the NHL averaging 27:11 of ice time per game and ranks 22nd among NHL league leaders with 30 points (12-18-30). With his 50th goal of his NHL career on Thursday, Feb. 5, Bouwmeester became just the second Panthers defenseman to record 50 tallies while playing for the Cats, joining Robert Svehla (61).

3. The Panthers goaltending tandem of Tomas Vokoun and Craig Anderson ranks sixth in the NHL with 2.59 GAA and places second in the NHL with a .923 save percentage. Vokoun has started the last eight games for the Panthers posting a 5-3 mark with two shutouts. Additionally, the duo of Vokoun and Anderson has combined for a 7-2-2 record when they face 40 or more shots.

4. The Panthers place tied for first in the NHL with nine different players who have recorded at least 10 goals (Booth, Horton, Stillman, Bouwmeester, Campbell, Frolik, McCabe, Zednik, Weiss) and place tied for first in the NHL with 12 different players who have recorded at least 20 points (Booth, Weiss, Horton, Bouwmeester, Stillman, Frolik, Campbell, Dvorak, McCabe, Peltonen, Ballard, Zednik).

5. RW Richard Zednik has recorded seven points (4-3-7) with a +7 rating in his last eight games played, netting the shootout game-deciding goal on Friday, Feb. 13 in Florida's 2-1 win over the NY Rangers, as well as the game-winning goal in the Panthers 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Toronto on Tuesday, Feb. 10. C Stephen Weiss has recorded 15 points (3-12-15) with a +5 rating in his last 18 games played and paces the team with 41 points (10-31-41). LW David Booth has recorded 23 points (8-15-23) in his last 26 games played and leads the Panthers with 20 goals.

Cat of the Night

The Team - After dropping their last game against the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0, the Florida Panthers look to re-group against the top team in the NHL.

Out-Of-Town Games of Interest

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Philadelphia Flyers = 5-4 Pens win
(Pittsburgh 2 points behind us)

Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens = 4-1 Habs in the 2nd
(Montreal currently 1 point ahead with 1 more game played)

7:00 pm - New York Rangers @ Buffalo Sabres
(New York currently 2 points ahead of us, tied with Buffalo)

PB1300s Official Game Day Preview

Saturday, December 6th, 2008: Boston Bruins @ the Florida Panthers. Result: Bruins 4, Panthers 0. Panthers record 11-12-4

Since that date, the Florida Panthers have gone 18-9-4, jumping from 15th in the East to 7th currently. While the Bruins still are one of the top teams in the league, they will be facing a MUCH different team than the one they faced in early December. With the Panthers last game resulting in a loss, I expect them to come out and play the way they did against the Devils, which was also the next game following a loss (Capitals).

Thought you guys, single ones of course, would like to see what the lovely country of Greece has to offer!

An alcoholic drink made of rum, sugar, lime juice, crushed mint leaves, soda water, and shaved ice.

Very good drink. Not really my choice of drink, but its good nonetheless.

We have games in hand on Carolina and Pitts, but they have both won back to back games, so we can't afford to come up empty tonight, we need at least a point, hopefully 2...get it done cats!

Yeah, I presumed it had alcohol...I'll blame you if I've jinxed things by voting for the 37 degrees and a boston creme pie. I love me some boston creme pie. And I can stand 37 degrees - it'd feel downright warm right about now.

The cold and pie sounds good. But we have to win this, the guys have to show that they can beat anyone... I don't want this to end on a bad note and possibly be Jay's last game at the BAC in a Panther's jersey. I don't want to see him play in their bee costume.

Great GDT, you have totally spoiled us. Should be another really fun game. If Chicago's good, Boston's better. I predict a Cats win, 2-1.

Pittsburgh and Montreal have already won today, so two points would be greatly appreciated. Boston's got a ton of points, they don't need two more. I would like to have them play one of those stink up the joint type of games, where they can't even skate straight much less make a pass. I think we're owed one of those.

Ok so Booth hasn't scored recently, but anybody notice he almost has 40 points? He smashed his previous point total last season, that is absolutely excellent, he's overdue for a goal and I'm sure they will come so, but he has been assisting on a lot of them lately. Maybe he's expanding his game? Perhaps finding more out about what he can do? Anyways, its great to see him doing so well.

I'd be worried about Booth if he wasn't getting chances. But he's driving hard at the net. The goals will come. I'm not in the slightest way worried about him. He's a major keeper.

Cause the refs decided to pull that call out of their ass. I mean, no doubt it was a penalty but they had no call on the play and then just made something up. That never happens in our favor, so why now?

Where do they find these referees? Lord....

Love seeing those busy sticks, getting in the way of the Bruins. And I like McCabe taking the body more. Haven't seen that in a while. I think he's been concentrating on being safe and solid back there and have missed seeing some of those hits.

legs don't look great so far but slowly (perhaps) picking up. no forecheck to speak of, too many early turnovers by D and Fs and too many odd-man rushes (3 or 4 already). not good but still recoverable.

Correct, but great defensive work by the forwards. I haven't seen this kind of defensive aggression for quite a while, especially during that four minute PK.

And we've had chances too. Remember, that's Boston atop the East standings.

Did everyone choke on their beers when Ballard made that pass across the middle that got picked off early in the first period?

This is one of those classic hockey situations. The Bruins had people on the wing that Ballard was heading for, so he opted for the logical alternative. Too bad someone was there, salivating.

Solid 1st period. Thought we executed really well on the PK, albeit BOS did look less aggressive with the man advantage(remind you guys of some team?). Hopefully we can kill off this PP to start the 2nd and start establishing the forecheck.

Our 4th line looked like it was really moving out there too.

during the PK, yeah - great job. big finish to this horton penalty is required. i'd like to see the 4th with some more time during the 2nd as they looked ok and actually were getting the puck deep most shifts.
