2009 Winter Classic

From CBC :

Rumor has it that next year's Winter Classic would either be in Philadelphia (Eagles Stadium) vs Washington

OR

in Boston (Fenway Park or Patriots Statidum ) vs ................... The Montreal Canadiens

That second one would be a pretty good game...

I think every team should get to play in a Winter Classic before a team gets to play twice.

edit: nvm, just realised there's no snow in Florida and down south... Maybe a game of street hockey?

On the TSN panel, they once proposed a game between the Penguins and the Flyers at the Beaver Stadium at Penn State University, I think that would be a lot more impressive. It's one of the largest stadiums in the world and it has a capacity of 107 282 fans.

I read somewhere they were going to wait until 2012 to have one at Fenway, because it'll be the 100th anniversary of the stadium.

There's also a good chance we have a game at Olympic Stadium next year, although it wouldn't be considered the Winter Classic.

I don't know how they'll get ice to freeze since that building is like a sauna sometimes, but can you imagine how loud it would be? Especially if the roof is on...

Would be cool.

I'll have to go back to Boston that year, then. I love Fenway (yet hate the Sox).

Bruins vs Habs at Fenway would be awesome. Best rivalry in all of hockey in my opinion.
I'm a Bruin fan and the vast majority of us would want that game against the Habs.
Call it hate or upmost respect{ I like the latter}, but it's you guys we wanna play for sure!!!

I don't think that would be a problem considering that the NHL has been looking into technology (a TSN article from a month or two ago said they spent over $1M) to play one in a place like California.

I agree. But for the games for the teams in the south, they can just play in the northern cities..

Producing the ice wouldn't be that difficult I don't think. The real problem is having hockey players in full equipment skating around in the heat.

Flyers - Pens at Beaver Stadium would be epic, but I doubt the Pens would get another game so close to their last one... although they should be trying to showcase the Malkin - Crosby dynamic as much as they can. 100,000+ fans for an NHL game would be so so so sweet.

Indeed something like that would have to be a night game at the very least.

No, the real problem in those southern cities is getting people in those seats...

I'm sure us Hab fans would love to see a Habs vs Bruins game at Fenway Park as well.
