Kings/Isles

This assumes that Isles get first overall.

Kings: First overall (John Taveres)

Isles: Drew Doughty

I have to be honest that if I am Lombardi, I don't do it. IMHO, Doughty is going to be better than any player taken in the 2008 or 2009 drafts (yes, that includes Hedman, Taveres, et all). But, I wanted to see what others thought.

I think the Isles would be nuts to pass on Tavares for anything short of a massive overpayment type trade.

Trading Darth was tough but he wanted my job...so i hope Darth likes Tampa

Re: the question at hand, im not sure either team would do it.

Lombardi needs Drew Doughty to develop.

Isles need a marketable kid ...who i believe Tavares is.

ya i think the kings would keep doughty because they have their top forwards in the go. It really is a tough one though

The kings keep doughty, hands down. Top pairing defencemen are much harder to find then number one centers. They play more minutes. Not only that but most defencemen take a long time to develop but not doughty. Only a handful of defencemen become top pairing defencemen in their first year in the leauge. Oh, and puck moving defencemen are the hottest commodity in the leauge right now. Don't get me wrong. I like JT but young puck moving top pairing defencemen are almost a myth in the NHL.

I'm the owner of either franchise and my GM makes that move, he's fired on the spot.

With how great Doughty has transitioned into the NHL, I'd keep him.

Yeah I mean Tavares or Hedman would be great, but Doughty has already proven that he is a #1 in the NHL

I agree. This trade doesn't make sense for LA.

You guys do realize that the Isles' have a less than 50-50 chance of picking first?

What part of this did you not understand?

This assumes that Isles get first overall.

This is a fantasy thread and I started with the above assumption.

Dude, that trade proposal is like dividing by zero.

BUT, trading our #1 defensmen for a player who has not played an NHL game yet no matter how good he is supposed to be is just stupid.

LA will never do this deal they have plenty of young talent up front already.

Besides still feel Isles Pick Hedman.

Isles add another good young forward player at trade deadline

Well at least this is a normal proposal. Do the Isles want to give up JT, after trading away some offense? I'd think you guys want to build around this guy.

The Kings could use some more young talent, but they're already sitting on a bunch currently. As others have mentioned, we really need a top veteran d-man, and most importantly, a top free agent winger.

Fair enough. Although your prefix is "Proposal" and not "Speculation".

With Lombardi's philosophy of how you build a core and his value system I don't think it would ever happen. He has seven parts to a core and the number one defenseman is more highly coveted than a center.
  1. #1 Goalie
  2. #1 Defenseman
  3. #1 Center
  4. #2 Defenseman
  5. #2 Center
  6. #1 Winger
  7. #2 Winger

With Doughty being projected to be the #2 piece in that list he's not going to trade him for a center who is likely slotted at #5 with Kopitar already on the team. Even if he pans out to be better than Kopitar he'd be #3 on the depth chart of need and skilled #1 defenseman are so much harder to acquire.

THIS COULD BE THE WORST TRADE I'VE EVER SEEN SUGGESTED. THE FACT THAT AN ISLANDER FAN SUGGESTED THIS MAKES ME EVEN MORE CONCERNED. DOUGHTY IS NOT IN THE SAME STRATOSPHERE AS JOHN TAVARES. This was so awful I had to type in CAPS

If the Islanders offered this trade to the Kings they do it in a heartbeat. Islanders don't do this trade if the Kings throw in the Staples Center beer sales over the next 25 years.

Potential future Mega Star for future all star defenseman.

Umm...no thanks

JT this is by far not the worst trade proposed on these boards. Check just about every Leafs proposal

I would do this trade in a heartbeat if the I was the Islanders. Doughty has the potential to be THE best defenseman in the league. I'd be willing to give up the pick of Tavares/Hedman for Doughty.

That said, Kings would never do this.
