GDT: March 11th, 7:30 pm. Montreal vs Florida

Game Day Thread: Montreal's Edition

Montreal Canadiens (37-26-6-2) VS. Florida Panthers (24-28-14-3)
From the Bell Center, Montreal, Quebec.

Game Time: 7:30 PM, thursday , March 11th.
TV: Reseaux des Sports.
Radio: Ckac AM 730 (french Broadcast) or Team990 (english Broadcast).

Previous Meetings this year: (Montreal 0-2-1-0)
Last Game: Feb 10th, 2004 - Habs 1, Panthers 2

Preview:

-Habs are finaly in town, and so is Luongo...
They are now sitting confortably in 7th position, 1 point away from the Devils but with 2 games less. Zednik, Koivu did carry the team offensively during the western road trip. We also have to mention the good performance of Garon and the resurgence of Markov that has played his best hockey since his return from Russia. Now, in front of their fans who completely forgot why they boooed their captain, Dowd Kovalev and co might cause a surprise in the post season playoffs. A top NHL first line, a great second line with young strong caliber players, an intense 3rd line and the experienced defensive 4rth line are all the Habs might need to go far and to enter the future with a strong core where little is missing. The defense is also mixed with a good variety of assets and might be one of the most underestimate in the league. Add to that one of the best (if not the best) goaltender duo.

-The Panthers are in the process of building the team around Luongo (G), Jokinen (C) and Boomester (D). Valeri bure just left as a rental for Dallas and might come back this summer just like he did last year. Even if Panther's fans may be shocked to see their home favorites go away, Dudley recent trades made the team grow stronger for the future. With the uncertainty of next year's season, he might be forming a team to be taken seriously with some good young players. The most difficult part is done when they stole Luongo from the islanders. Future can only be brighter.

News, Quotes and Notes:

. Luongo was, is and will be the man in the Panthers' organisation.
. Panthers lost their best scorer tuesday when they traded V. Bure to the stars for Defenseman Drew Bagnall.
. Montreal isn't at his best when playing against them (2 losses and a tie).
. Alexei Kovalev is finaly playing, and Montreal might have 2 hot Snipers on their hands with the recent surge of Richard "you've been zednified" Zednik.
. Jim Dowd contiues to do well since he joined the habs. Him and Begin are teaming up to form the "Batman and Robin" duo against every evil line they face.
. M. Samuelsson RW and C. Berglund LW are all out with serious injuries .
. Dudley, Panther's GM and ex-coach. Might be a gonner after this season.
. Florida is a young team with future stars such as Bouwmeester who might become a defensive quaterback star very soon.
. ``I'm just not sharp right now in goal, that's the bottom line,'' said Luongo against Tampa. let's wish it stays like that.
. He will face Mathieu Garon who was incredible in his last game against the Kings. he made 46 saves and earned his 8th wins of the season.(gaa:2.41, Save%:.915).
. ``We have a lot of guys that show up and play hard and we have some that are holding us back,'' Florida's Backup goaltender Shields said. ``It's pretty obvious to everybody we're a team that's in ninth or 10th because we don't have everybody coming to the rink every night.''......... OUCH !!!

Recap and quotes from last year

"``I was too excited,'' Kozlov said. ``I thought it was a very good chance for a hat trick, but it doesn't go in.''

Andrei Markov scored for Montreal, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Montreal native Roberto Luongo made 40 saves for the Panthers, who are 2-0-1 against the Canadiens this season. Luongo made several big saves to preserve the lead, including a leg stop on Mike Ribeiro from close range early in the third period.

``We had a lot of shots, but I don't think we created a lot of chances,'' said Theodore, who made 20 saves. ``And when we had those big chances, he made the big saves.''

Kozlov set the record at 1:50 of the second period. Jokinen won the center-ice faceoff back to defenseman Lukas Krajicek, who dumped the puck in around the boards. With Theodore going behind the net to play the puck, it suddenly bounced straight to the front of the goal, where Kozlov was alone for the easy tap-in.

``We can't use that as an excuse,'' Ribeiro said. ``That's part of the game. We could have scored one like that. We've got to bounce back and play better than that.''

Kozlov earlier tied the game 1-1 when he squeezed between defensemen Patrice Brisebois and Markov and put a short backhander between Theodore's legs. Theodore argued the whistle had blown before Kozlov scored on a second chance.

``The first goal, I had it, the referee blew the whistle and then he got his rebound and scored,'' Theodore said. ``And that caused the second goal.''

Markov gave Montreal the lead in the first period when his wrist shot from the point deflected off the stick of Panthers wing Juraj Kolnik and over the right shoulder of Luongo.

The goal snapped a streak of 237 minutes, 34 seconds of shutout hockey by the Panthers in a coach's debut.

``That's another step forward for our hockey club, going into the third with a lead and keeping it,'' Torchetti said."

They don't have Kozlov to score them some clutch goals. We're good to go.

Florida without Kozlov, Nillson and Bure are much less of a threat than before. Very important for the Habs to come out flying and not take these Panthers for granted. Attack them early and often and give them nothing in our own zone.

The Habs will be pumped playing at home for the first time in a while and first home game for both Kovalev and Dowd, so they will have a little extra to prove tonight.

5-2 Habs.

Kovo and the Habz are gona kick some A** today. They better or im gona puke. We have to come out solid today, because the whole roda trip was a terrible one. We only won on the road because of Koivu, Zed, Theo and Garron. Everybody else was naping.

If we get a team effort tonight, i say we win-

4-1, Kovo, Zed, Markov, Ryder.

Other predictions- Daganais gets benched after the first period for skating to slow

Oh im sorry, did i mention Daganais stinks at hockey

Great job again Catala. Just one correction...add one more win to Mtl's record at the top of the thread and one or two other spots. They have 37 wins.

There is no reason why we shouldn't dominate this game. Their only chance is Roberto. Can't wait to see Kovalev playing in the Bell Centre as a Hab

Killer GDT Catala

And believe it or not a victory could possibily pull us within 4 points of the division lead

I'm so freakin' pumped up for this one guys!

We gotta win it, let's say 3-1!

Kovalev in the line-up is going to give us a major boost!

Would be surreal if Kovalev scores, I'd love to see the crowd's reaction
