Wow, as a Chi fan you would do this?

I would like to see a later pick coming to Toronto. Nothing crazy but with Biron it really makes it impossible to play Pogge unless we just waive Biron which seems a little rough to do. To take on 7 million in salary I think it would be expected. Something like a 4th. Don't know who would be giving it up though. I understand we're losing one guy in the trade but I think to take Biron another little piece would need to be added.

I dont know if i like this as a leafs fan. Im really not a huge Lupul fan. I think he is overpaid, and Stajan is finally coming into his own. He is signed for 3 mill less than lupul until after next season, and I cant see him getting what lupul gets.

I see this trade as helping both PHI and CHI, and including TOR only out of convience.

I agree with what your saying but Lupul seems like a risk/reward kind of guy. I see him with potentially more upside then Stajan. My only concern is whether he can produce on a bad team.

I think he would produce as well if not better if he were getting 1st line minutes.

Seems like a good deal for Chicago. It gives Chicago the 2nd/3rd line centre they need and it frees up enough cap space to go after a veteran top-6 forward if they want to.

Yeah, I wouldn't do this trade either. It seems like a trade for the heck of it rather than addressing any Leaf needs in any real way.

Basically Hawks get a young C who can play on 2nd or 3rd line for many years,

Flyers get a legit #1 goalie for there cup push and a good pick while clearing away a high long term contract opening a spot for young forward.

Maple Leafs get a good young RW signed for several years who is good for 25-35 goals. Biron is just a salary dump that Leafs would take for rest of year.

Ok, So how bad is it?
Biron is a salary dump but Lupul isn't? 3.5M for a player that has never hit 25 goals?

Stajan is twice the player Lupul is. When he's not scoring he's still effective.

I think the trade's pretty good for all three sides. The only questionable part is whether the Leafs are really ready to give up on Stajan but I'd say value-wise, it's pretty good.

Just so you know it's 4.25 not 3.5.

Leafs would be crazy to do it. Stajan is a good third line center who will play and excel in that role. Course the Leafs have asked him to fill a first and second line role at different times this year for obvious reasons and he just isn't that kind of player.
Lupul has a little finish but his lack of a total two way game keeps getting him moved.Leaf fans are constantly getting dumped on for over valuating our players but here we get asked to take a salary dump also. No wonder all the Chi-Flyers fans like this one.

considering $$, age, and production the Leafs give up the best asset and get the 2 worst ...Leafs say NO.

Leave them out, and deal with Chi directly

I'd rather have Stajan than Lupul, and the Leafs want PICKS

It'd make more sense if Toronto got the picks and Lupul went to Chicago...

Uh, Lupul has hit 25 goals before. His career high is 28. He scored 20 last year despite missing more than a quarter for the season with a series of very bad injuries. He's on pace for 25 goals this season despite getting second line minutes.

Granted, Stajan is a more well-rounded player. However, he doesn't have anywhere near Lupul's upside, which is a perennial 30 + goal sniper in his prime with first line minutes.

Stajan's played 20 more career games, scored 25 less goals, and has 30 less points. Saying he is twice the player Lupul is is simply typical Leaf fan hyperbole.

Lupul's deal is too rich for Chicago with Keith, Kane and Toews due for new deals in '10/'11.

4.25M for:
- A player who has scored more than 25 goals once in his entire career
- Brutally inconsistent, invisible more often than not
- Locked up until 2012-2013

Anything else?

As a leaf fan i'd take the deal.

Lupul >> Stajan

and he's the only piece we have to give up to land Lupul....i don't see why the leafs don't do this. The only down side is Lupul's contract. Stajan only makes 1.7 this year and next. Lupul's contract takes a big jump next season.

I'd consider Lupul a bit of a salary dump at this point. Sure he has more potential, but at his age, how likely is it that he's going to improve significantly? I'd imagine that what you see is what you get. So the Leafs give up a young solid two-way third-line center with plenty of intangibles, and get back a pair of salary dumps.

Obviously Philadelphia would like this deal. They improve their pick, and trade their salary dumps for a cup-winning #1 goaltender.

I think it would be better to leave Toronto out of this deal altogether.

I don't like the idea of giving up Habby, especially for the playoffs, and he's known to be money in the playoffs.

I don't do this as the Hawks at all. If we are giving up a 2nd and Khabibulin I want more back than frickin Stajan. If we can't, I'd rather keep Khabibulin for the playoffs.

Terrible trade for Hawks.
