Pierre Maguire mentioned as Pens coaching candidate

http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sa...ry/586672.html
The author of the article, Bucky Gleason, who I regard with the same warmth as Pierre Maguire thinks he'll get a long look. He mentions Maguire's previous work with the Pens and his good relationship with Shero. It's around the middle of the article.

Quote:
The downside for hockey fans, of course, would be losing him on television. Hes knowledgeable, articulate and fearless when making his assessments on the fly. Its why hes one of the best in the biz.
That's a sacrifice millions of hockey fans would gladly make.

If Bylsma isn't going to stick around, Quinn or Laviolette please.

He was on the Drive a few days before MT got fired. Pretty much ripping the way the Pen's are coached. And mentioning what he would do. Pauslen asked him if he was "looking at houses in Pittsburgh", Pierre just laughed.

According to Pierre, he would solve Sid's winger problem. He said that he would put Jordan Staal on Sid's wing. He would want Jordan to play down low in the offensive zone and have Sid up high.

Brilliant

Staal gets taken off the puck easy down low
+
Crosby can't score from up high

I'd like to see Pierre Maguire get a coaching job... But not here.

We need a proven Championship winning coach. I'm looking at Quinn or Laviolette.

I can just hear it now:

"Crosby with the backhand shot! Rebound to Staal with a wide open cage!! Aaaand he shoots it high and wide from 2 feet away..."

I don't know if I could handle him being our coach. If fact, I pretty much know I couldn't.

It's funny how he is supposedly so close to Shero, and just indirectly bashes the hell out of him when discussing last season's trade with Atlanta. Yeah, I realize he could be bashing Mario instead on that one, but that doesn't make it anymore legit. In fact, it makes it less, especially since according to him they (Pierre and Mario) are still close. Yeah, right Pierre.

He has an ego the size of the Grand Canyon, and is exactly the type of coach a team with two franchise players needs to stay away from. If we're going for an ego-laden coach, I want Torts.

McGuire = guy who is way too sure of himself. His comments on the Atlanta trade in particular (though he's not the only Canadian genius to make the comments) are really indicative that he doesn't know the team well. He just thinks he does. Also if he is a close personal friend of Shero's that's probably all the more reason why Shero would never hire him. It would look really bad, considering he has no real credentials to coach this team.

Wasn't he the head coach in Hartford for about a year?

Either way... he's been in broadcast since 1995. Did the Pens follow the Tampa Bay Lightning at all this year?

I loathe the idea of him even being considered for the job. Stick to TV, Pierre.

That being said, I'd rather have him than Tortorella.

This type of idea panned out perfectly when Eddie O. took the bench for the 05-06 campaign...

I'm all for it.

the only thing I would like to see since Lange is not going to do the TV side is change up with Maguire. I like some of his views...Get rid of Stiegy...

I hate him

His commentary makes him look like a penguin hater. Does he ever have anything nice to say about the pens?

If saying something about how much he's in love/lust with everyone and everything involved with the Red Wings organization is saying something nice about the Pens, then yeah. He says something nice about them every 2.3 seconds he's on the air.

Shero is not that dumb. This is who I am hoping for...

TODD RICHARDS

Currently: San Jose assistant coach

Rossi: Two successful seasons (2006-08) at AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton only enhanced his standing with Shero; was an assistant with AHL Milwaukee when Shero ran that affiliate for Nashville.
