I would like to know your opinion about that trade:

To New York Islanders:

Mike Komisarek : signed 5yrs/20$M
Christopher Higgins : signed 2 yrs/6$M
Montreal Canadiens 1st round pick 2009

To Montreal Canadiens:

New York Islanders first round pick 2009

So basically a top defensive defenseman who(I love Komi, so don't get my wrong here) has limited offensive upside, a solid foward, and a mid 20s pick for a potential franchise foward(Tavares), or at worst a potential franchise defenseman(Hedman)...yeah I am going to have to pass on that one.

Not to mention we'd probably would be considered a possible destination if Komisarek hit the market this offseason due to his hometown roots(just rough speculation here).

Agreed.

I can't see why Komi wouldn't want to test the market, since he's so close to becoming a ufa.Let the isles try to sell him on playing in front of family and friends with their youngsters. If that sales pitch works and he signs with them great.

If not,move on.

The Habs can't do it now. *IF* the Isles won the lottery, I would of course be ready to do it after the season ended. I wouldn't trade those players for anything less than the #1 overall pick, though. #2 wouldn't cut it. And needless to say the Isles would never do it anyway.

But supposing they did, then of course it's the Habs who would just re-sign Komisarek on July 1st.

i think the isle would rather trade their first for something they can use to rebuild, not an RFA,a good defenseman, and a mid first. they could get more just trading down.

Wouldn't be the first time!

20-Mar-99: New York Islanders traded Tommy Salo to the Edmonton Oilers for Mats Lindgren and 8th round selection (Radek Martinek) in 1999.

24-Jun-00: New York Islanders traded Olli Jokien and Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha.

23-Jun-01: Ottawa Senators traded Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders for Zdeno Chara, Bill Muckalt and 1st round selection (Jason Spezza) in 2001.

24-Jun-01: Buffalo Sabres traded Michael Peca to the New York Islanders for Tim Connolly and Taylor Pyatt.

11-Mar-03: Edmonton Oilers traded Janne Niinimaa and a 2nd round selection in 2003 to the New York Islanders for Brad Isbister and Raffi Torres.

Some good names going places for none in return.

Maybe Mr. Wang wants some local boys to sell tickets?

It doesn't make sense for the Isles... but it doesn't make sense for the Habs anyway!

Getting Schneider was a move in the right direction for Gainey. The team is really talented and if they can find their chemistry back, they could suprised a lot of people as the dark horse in the playoffs.

Pointless deal for both teams IMO.

BTW, Komisarek will re-sign with the Habs before July 1st... mark my words!

i'd like to see a weight/guerin for higgins trade before the deadline. It would add a vetran presence to the habs for the playoff run and enhance the chances we can get komi out of this division this summer.

Don't kid yourself, the only way he signs with the Isles is if they offer a retarded contract, which will probably happen given your management so so long Komi.

very hard to me to pick a side here, seeing as how 2 PEOPLE said "mark my words", but I have to go with you on this one. Since Schneider was brought in the pp has been amazing (7-13), and if Kovalev plays like he can this team can shock some people.

and the komisarek thing, why would he go to the isles, he loves playing in MTL, he loves the fans, and the fans love him. im with you on this one as well, dont even see him testing the market.

Yeah, the idea he might want to play back home is completely absurd.

Im not saying its a given, but I would be more surprised if he never plays for a team in the NYC area.

Not going to happen. The Islanders aren't going to give up a chance at John Tavares for Komisarek and Higgins as well as Montreal's 1st round pick.

I know it's hard to let a potential top 3 pick, but maybe Snow can pack the 1st round pick of MTL and the one received from the Sens trade(SJ pick) for a top 10 pick?

Komisarek
Higgins
top 10

For

1pick 09

but since both higgins and komisarek are not signed, i posted this thread simply by curiosity.

There are 4 things the Islanders are NOT Trading. DiPietro because no one would take him. Okposo, Bailey and by far the most definite...their #1 pick. Sorry.
