Do you think Brian Burke will fire Ron Wilson at one point during his tenure (as GM)?

Just a question. I know there is absolutely no pressure for the next two years or so. I just saw that after we won this game Ron Wilson looked so unbelievably relieved, like he needed the win (he didn't). Also looking at Tom Renney, etc. It's obviously conceivable that, while they are friends, Ron Wilson will find himself in a position in the next few years that he needs to make the playoffs or be cut if we have the talent at one point that pretty much demands a playoff spot.

Thoughts? Do you think they will be fired together?

i guess we'll have to wait and see.

i'd think not as the leafs will be 2 or so years till you can expect results. from there hopefully we can get those results

Rutherford had no problem firing Maurice. It's a business.

When Burke gets the players he wants and feels they have a team that should be competitive, if Ron Wilson holds them back he'll be fired. He definitely has immunity this season and will have some next year too assuming some modest acquisitions and slightly higher expectations.

I think if you looked on the face of anyone on the bench it was of relief.

Im not so sure Wilson will be going anywhere for atleast 3 years. Even then, only if the newly constructed team is struggling while having talent.

Yes, RW will be fired.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

As it is with all coaches (unless they retire), he will be fired at one point. That point in time won't come for at least 3-4 years, but it will come.

Maybe once we're done with the rebuild and have become a competitive team again. Then the teams play might dictate RW's job status. Right now winning is a bonus.

Hard to say. He's got 3 more years after this one, if things don't get better quickly the GM always has that bullet in his gun to buy time.

I don't know, Burke is a loyal guy, and being godfather to Wilson's daughter, I don't see it happening as long as the Leafs are competitive.

If the coaching isn't up to snuff I don't see why not.
Like someone else said this is a business, friend or not if an employee isn't preforming than you get rid of them.

Not in these first years, definitely not. RW is doing a fine job also, y'all is winning games and that offense is just GREAT with THESE players. I would be very happy the way you play offense, keeping the puck, being active, with this roster. With this part of the game, RW has done a very good job already. Already.

I honestly think we will be with Wilson for years and have success under him even in the playoffs but then when it's time to really put the team over the top someone else does it.

I think year 1 (this year) and 2 are his grace periods........year 3 and 4 is where he'll have to show improvement/make the playoffs.

If Burke manages to stay the entire term of his contract Wilson will receive an extension.

Wilson hates the media presence here in Toronto, so I could see him leaving as soon as his contract is up. Maybe even sooner.

I dont see it happening. The Leafs are going to enter a good period soon and it will be with these two working together.

i think if it comes to it then burke will fire him.. no doubt.. because he knows wilson wouldnt take it personally.. i do not however see him firing him in a situation where its like im about to lose my job so ill fire wilson as a last ditch effort... like others have said tho.. were in good hands they'll make us competitive

He only has 4 fours on his contract... given our current situation I do not see him being fired within those 4 years. Getting an extension is another question, if anything that will be up to Wilson to consider and to see if he likes the team or if he's having fun as well. I think if Burke is successful this year at the deadline and at the draft and even through next year and can change this team around, then he will stay and RW will stay and they will build this team together for at least a few years past RW's contract.

Only if the Leafs beat themselves in a regular season game...
