Stempniak

I'll admit, I've been critical of him, but the past few games he's been noticeably better.

And tonight I really thought he should've been one of the 3 stars.

He had 3 assists

Going to be tough for him making a place on the team. You'd think some people here are blood relatives of Steen/Colaiacovo. He has been better the last two games though, hope he turns it around.

He's been better recently, and perhaps getting time on the point on the PP has made him a little more comfortable.

3rd. liner you can use on PP.

I'll admit I have been bitter towards him for losing Colaiacovo, and have been critical of him, but I think he is gaining some confidence.
I also think he has really benefited from being played on the point on the powerplay.

I was all for the trade at first... But from what I've seen, he's trash.

One of those peices of trash has 21 points in 40 games as a 26 year old defenseman.

I'll give you Steen, but Colaiacovo was fantastic (when he was playing...).

They really were not that much better than what Stempniak is, if that's what you're implying.

I'm not saying they're that much better, I'm saying they're not pieces of trash.

He's still not showing any of that supposed "top-6" skill, but he did do some good work in the offensive zone tonight.

On a different team. On the Leafs he had 1pt in 10gp, and was scratched numerous times for lack of effort and conditioning.

We're talking about a defenceman with a career high of 17pts and serious injury problem. Sure right now he's looking sharp, but when he bangs into a wall later tonight, and breaks his foot I doubt you'll be singing the same tune.

I agree that his time in Toronto was up; however I don't buy Ron Wilsons conditioning argument, none of his injuries had anything to do with his conditioning. I think everyone can agree though that, if healthy he could be a top four D Man, of course until he can really put a long stretch of games together his health will always be suspect.

I would rather have Steen and Colaiacovo. That trade was just awful. Stempniak will never score 27 goals again.

Stempniak might be Toronto's best forward. Give him a chance.

He is one of the smartest players and does all of the little things that the score sheet never measures. He needs to find some other skill players to mesh with...and the points will come.

Not a player to give up on right now.

I never saw him as being a top four defenceman.

When healthy he clearly had the potential to be a top 4, maybe even top 2. I am not sold on his health however, and you need to be very careful relying on such individuals to play big roles on your team.

While good, Coli wasn't the level of player that was SO elite that you could deal with him not playing half the year.

Steen and Colaiacovo were guys we had been grooming for 7-8 years and on a rebuilding team I don't see why we couldn't have given them the opportunities that guys like Grabovski and Finger got earlier in the season.

Stempniak is just another drop in the bucket of Leaf players I find extremely hard to cheer for. Hopefully he and Van Ryn, Mayers and Finger and whatever other Fletcher stain I've forgotten about get washed out at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.

I don't completely agree,

I think Stemps is a great player, he just needs to play top line minutes with a play-making Center. He has great speed, a good shot and will finish a hit. I like Stemps and I hope we finally give this guy a chance to prove himself (again) - he got off to a slow start, but we have to be honest with ourselves...this team isn't packed full of talent for him to play with.
