Phi/ott

To Ottawa:

Joffrey Lupul
3rd Round Pick

To Philadelphia:

Chris Neil
Antoine Vermette

Philadelphia needs to free up cap space for next year and get tougher and Ottawa needs a second-line winger.

I think the value is fair, although the cap probably wouldn't work this season, and the Flyers don't have a 2nd this year.

I think the Flyers are overpaying. Change the 2nd to a 4th and maybe they do it.

are you joking?

Lupul is going to make 4mill, while never putting up 53 pts like Vermie did last season alone since his anahiem days

add to that vermie is one of the best faceoff men in the league, and is a PK beast

in the cap era i rather not have another "FIsher like" contract for a 45 pt getter

I like the trade proposal and think it's pretty much fair value-wise (honestly you even slightly favoured the Flyers as a Sens fan).

Two problems.

1. Flyer do not have a 2nd round pick in 09 (mabe 2010?).
2. Briere would have to agree to play Wing.

We would have to add a fwd contract

would
Lupul Metro 3rd for Vermette and Neil work??

Ottawa could waive Metro if the choose and Neil would prolly be gone next year but he wouldnt hurt going to the playoffs. Philly could really use a solid top 4 dman and move Jones thou before Fwd help. but ive always losed the idea as Vermette as our third line center.

last time i checked i dont thin we have to ask a player to play wing. you tell them too. maybe he wont like it and ask for a trade...

i dont even think we will take on another 4 mill contract unless it is for a defender

we are already spending a lot on forwards, and the next big ticket is going to be on defense, unless Fisher is moved

we trade vermette, kelly and smith on deadline then:

Heatley 7.5 - Spezza - 7 - Alfredsson 5.4
Lupul 4.25 - Comrie - 3 - Zubov 0.850
Foligno 0.85 - Fisher 4.2 - Shannon 0.7
Ruutu 1.3 - Bass 0.513 - Donovan 0.6

Phillips 3.5 - Volchenkov 2.5
Campoli 0.633 - UFA
Lee 1.275 - Picard 0.8

Elliott 1.5
Auld 1

Total without UFA is 48,189,999

Leaves about 4-5 million for a #3 or 4 defensemen

why not just keep vermette who is as good as Lupul but brigns more to the table?

Murray is already reluctant to trade him unless it brings in a top notch defender as a package Vermie isnt going anywhere

He had 46 in 56 games last year. He'll hit about 50 this year.

If the sens are gonna move Vermette for someone making $4 per on a long term deal, that better be a defenseman and not a forward.

does Ottawa want to pay 4 mill for another forward who can put up 50 pts or just keep Vermie who can put up 45-50 pts (though having a bad year but has certainly picked his game up the last month or so)

I really don't think Vermette is going to be moved, he brings alot to the table for what he is paid. The value is there, I just dont' see him being moved.

Is Philly looking for capspace next season? If they are and they are in fact looking for another d'man for their playoff run I think a deal based around Kuba/Neil for Lupul would work for both teams......

I"m sure we'd have to add a pick of some sort to even it out but what are your thoughts flyers fans, would you have interest in a Neil/Kuba package for a playoff run?

Pass.

We'd be nuts to take on a 4.2 player in exchange for a 2.75 player who can do more - and is likely just as good. In his past 21 games he has 18 points. No deal.

nope, ottawa cant afford to put on that much salary without losing fisher. There is too much money tied up in heatley, spezza, alfie, and fisher and when the cap goes down after next year, lupul would force us to make a move. Plus, volchenkov needs a raise after next season.

Alright let me preface this with saying that I really like lupul but the problem is this really not fair value for vermentte who has some un tapped potential

Sometimes I shake my head when you overvalue Sens... in this case you've undervalued Vermette. He's better than Lupul straight up. Vermette is perfectly capable of scoring just as much as Lupul, PK'ing and being at the top of the face-off list. Lupul is completely useless when he's not scoring and that happens frequently. His only value to us would be if he could mesh with Spezza, score infinitely more than he does now and makes Heatley available. Otherwise, we don't need him.

if lupul scored infinitely more than he does now, he wouldn't be on the block and he'd probably be a bargain at 4.25 next season. mathematically speaking, he'd also instant surpass gretzky's records

Ugh. Any deal that begins with "Lupul" is bad news. That kid was so promising in Anaheim, but hasn't performed and is now overpaid.

The Sens lose this trade by a wide margin, not to mention adding another overpriced winger. FUN!
