Flames insider blog

not exactly good news in that department. it's a big blow to our 2nd PP and leaves us with only 6 NHL calibre D now with the team.

expect a move to bring in another because i don't think warrener is going to make it back. i guess the other option is always... THE RETURN OF ERIKSSON?!?!?!

Damn, Minnesota's hurt us real bad. This sucks and yeah, I don't see what Sutter could do besides bring up Bubba (or trade).

Was Ryan Wilson at camp? Any chance he or Pelech or Negrin come up?

Damn that is tough. Really going to miss his puck moving from the back end. If there was any doubt whether Sutter was going to go get a puck mover at the deadline I think that is solved now. Have to think he goes and gets a depth guy that moves the puck well.

Is he a player CGY should be looking at? That is, if CGY is on Kaberle's list.

What would it take?

It's been reported that he wants to play in the East, so I doubt it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Heck we have 6 healthy D men: Phaneuf, Regehr, Sarich, Aucoin, Vandermeer and Pardy.... NOT ERIKSSON

Fair enough but what if this talk about Hamhuis is possible... trade Lombi then somehow pick up a guy like Stajan from the leafs (good contract not a rental)... would like to see something along those lines plus a real back up goalie.

I understand that if Lombardi gets moved we'll need to get a centre....I just don't think that Stajan is a good option. I've watched a lot of the leafs and he rarely wins puck battles and he gets pushed around all over the ice. He's not a
particularly fast skater either.

Negrin's in junior so he wouldn't come up until his season is over.

Pelech or Wilson would be possibilities if we end up needing another callup.

Right now we've got 6 healthy D though so no need yet.

I tend to think we might make a trade for an impact defenseman.

i'm more concerned with the number of healthy, nhl calibre D ready to go into playoffs and not necessarily how many we have for the line up tonight or the next, etc.

at minimum, teams want to have 7 D good to go for the playoffs. that's why i'm speculating that we'll make a trade to bring one in, unless of course sutter is comfortable with bubba or another farm hand.

Why not just send a 4th round pick to Atlanta for Havelid? Atlanta is going nowhere and everyone knows Havelid is returning to Sweden next year. They get a somewhat decent pick for a player who is gone next year anyway and Calgary gets a solid two-way defenseman without moving anyone.

The best one obviously would be Stralman who doesn't seem to be a favorite of Wilson. If he could be had for a reasonably cheap price, he's the one we need.

Not sure what Waddel would want for Havelid, but I really like that idea.

Pelech got banged up last Wed. Didnt play Friday or Sunday.

I saw him walking in the concourse and he wasnt limping.

Wilson isnt someone that you want to call up now. Hes having a hard time as of late Dont besided Hes not quite ready.

Palin, or Pelech but Palin is subject to waivers.

excuse my ignorance but why does palin have to go through waivers again? i know it has something to do with age and contract status, but ive never fully understood the guidelines..

Like both those ideas. Havelid would be easier to get and would be a nice pickup. Don't know why Stralman is in the doghouse with Wilson, but I still imagine he would cost quite a bit. Good young prospect who Burke won't just give away.

Maybe Sutter would be interested in re-acquiring the familiar face of Jordan Leopold? He's had an up and down year but he would fill Gio's shoes well (and is UFA at the end of the season), and it could possibly lead to a cut-rate signing should he perform while he's here.

I suspect he would only cost about a 3rd.
