I thought they had at some point this season? Maybe my memory is lapsing, though.

He just floats around on the PP (including some time on the point). I've never seen him really stay in one place, and I like him being able to just roam around wherever he pleases.

The problem as I see it is that he's already serving one of the roles of a pointman -- carrying the puck up the ice. But because he's not technically playing the point he doesn't have the passing options he should once he enters the zone. No one is backing off the D in front of him so he doesn't have the time or space to just pull up inside the blue line. Too many turnovers are the result.

Ribeiro on the half-wall is too indecisive, plus no one respects his shot. The lack of respect for his shot could actually be turned into an asset on the point if the PKers overplay on the other D point. That would give Ribs the space he loves to survey and distribute. This also would get Modano back out there on the 1st unit and on the half wall where he belongs.

|
| Niskanen
| .............. Lehtinen
| ....................... Ott
| .............. Modano
| Ribs
|

Then throw out Robidas/Daley on the points along with Loui/Neal/Fabian for the 2nd unit. Might work.

Ribeiro on the point? I wasn't aware he had a slap shot that is key to that position.

You obviously miss the shoot out sometimes, especially whenever that last shoot out game was, eh?

Heh. I recall that, and while he does have a slap shot, it's not exactly the type you want running the point on the PP. Ribeiro manning the point also closes the ice down for him for any of his passes. He's best either on the half-wall or behind the net.

He's never behind the net on the PP. And he hasn't been effective on the half-wall.

Sure he has. It's been a while since he's decided of late not to engage much during the PP, but when they were most effective, sans Richards on the point, Ribeiro was playing mostly behind the goal line.

Someone manning the point needs the ability to shoot the puck through bodies and get it to the net. Richards, Niskanen, and Zubov (god rest his soul) all can do this. Modano has a hard shot, but his stick blade is so damn skinny he always is fumbling the puck. Ribeiro is best for the half-wall, but the problem is no one is clearing out space in the slot, so he has no options.

Those are my expert couch observations.

Ribeiro could benefit from a better player in front of the net ala Morrow. Whenever he has the puck PKers seem to really back off, and it should be opening passing lanes for him but I'm not sure that it does as much as he'd like.

So ..... Joel Lundqvist is a game time decision with the flu ....

Yesterday, Lines from practice were:

Eriksson-Ribeiro-Lehtinen
Neal-Modano-Conner
Barch-Sutherby-Sawada
Brunnstrom-*****-Parrish

Ott didn't practice, but he was playing soccer-volleyball today so he is in.

Dallas has one NHL line and 2/3rds of another

EDIT: I'm going to start rooting for the Stars to lose if Brunnstrom isn' playing with one of Ribeiro, Modano, Neal, or Eriksson.

BigG I've obviously become a bad influence.

Barring further trades does this mean I can expect a lineup like this in my near future?

Ott-Ribiero-Lehtinen
Neal-Modano-Conner
Brunnstrom-Lundqvist-Eriksson
Sutherby-Begin-Barch

Please no. How about this instead?

Ott-Ribiero-Lehtinen
Neal-Modano-Conner
Brunnstrom-Sutherby-Eriksson
Barch-Begin-Sawada

With Lundqvist being dealt. Please. Well in my ideal world Conner is back in the AHL and a guy like Lammers, Gagnon, or Shelast is playing on the 4th line instead.

Anyway you slice it though that is not a playoff lineup.

Nothing we can really do about it to be honest.

I would prefer:

Ott-Ribeiro-Lehtinen
Neal-Modano-Brunnstrom
Lundqvist-Sutherby-Eriksson
Barch-Begin-Sawada

I could go for that for a month before I shank myself.

Actually now that I think about it. Wilson might be ready soon so they can scratch Conner. Hallelujah!

Let's try this instead. AGain with Lundqvist gone.

Neal-Ribiero-Lehtinen
Brunnstrom-Modano-Eriksson
Ott-Sutherby-Sawada
Wilson-Begin-Barch

That is better. Not playoff worthy but much better.

They're not trading a guy who can play both wing and center with the current injury situation.

You want to see guys like Shelast, Gagnon, Lammers instead? Huh? It's safe to say there are enough rookies.

If my choice is Lammers, Gagnon, Shelast or Conner, yes I'm going to choose one of the first three depending on if I need a LW, C, or RW. Anyone but Conner.

And as I corrected above I forgot all about Wilson who should be ready soon. In effect Begin replaces Lundqvist and Dallas gets a better asset back.

Always funny to see Ludwig with Renner, you can see the disdain in Ludwig's eyes.
