Not Ranger fans. They ain't giving up no first round pick unless they're getting a premier star in return for it.

ya the leafs are dying for an undersized american center who makes about the same as datsyuk, yet has a career high of like 80 points, and averages about 60

You're insane. Antropov is so overrated. Tell you what. Make the same offer but you throw in a second and there is no way we are throwing in a first.

Three things. One, the Leafs stink and Gomez would instantly become your best player. Two, Not every center has to be 6'3 to be dangerous. Three, Gomez actually plays defense which your entire roster for the most part doesn't do.

about 50 goals, and size, strength, and defensive awareness (2 of only 4 leafs on the roster that have any)

then you had better hope Sather gets fired, and SOON! ...because he's going to be going into protect his backside mode soon to try to ensure a playoff spot, which may begin slipping away soon

Why not?

Gomez is a PPG player, he was thrown into a relaxed offensive team under Renney, not that Torts is in the mix i think Gomez's stats are going to increase.

I don't think Sather is that stupid. Maybe, though.

Only way Leafs take on Gomez is if the Rangers take back one of Jason Blake or Jeff Finger. With a projected cap decrease over the next two years, teams will be very cautious when taking on long term contracts, especially contracts of players who are on pace for 57 points and set to earn $7.3 million per season for the next 5 years.

I have no interest in that mega salary of Gomez.
There are huge contracts i would be ok with the leafs acquiring but they belong to much more deserving players.

leafs consider this, but then say no. Adding gomez would be counter-productive to our rebuild. Besides our team is trying to learn a stronger defensive game which gomez is sorely lacking.

So he's insane, and Antropov is overrated, but you'd do the same deal if it was a 2nd instead of a 1st. That's generous of you.

Edit: Oh wait, you want us to throw in a second, and you'll take out the first. Even more generous, what a deal this is. Send it to Burkie, we have a winner!

Really? I think there are MANY teams who wouldn't take Gomez and a 1st in exchange for a bag of pucks. There isn't exactly a demand for $7.4m smallish 60-point scorers. Especially not when signed into the middle of the next decade.

Except the last time he dealt a first round pick was in 2002, when he dealt that first, and basically, a bunch of feces with it, for Pavel Bure, a trade anyone would make. It's not his fault Bure got injured.

In fact, the only time during Sather's entire tenure here that there was a round we didn't have a pick in a round was last year, when we didn't have a third and fourth round pick, and we didn't have a seventh in '04.

So, yeah, you don't know what you're talking about.

I hate Sather, but there are plenty of real reasons to hate him instead of making up fake ones that aren't true.

This is very true. There's been some dubious picks over the years, but he's done fine the last few years. He likes being able to make a pick on draft day.

I think all this Gomez talk is pointless until Sather gets fired anyways. There's no way in a million years that Sather will deal Gomez and admit he was wrong to sign him to that contract.

Yes. And there is no way Sather is going anywhere, anytime soon. The man is fishing buddies with Dolan & it took Mr. Dolan an eternity to finally can Isiah Thomas....despite the constant outcry for his firing & lawsuits against Thomas.

try to put ur mind to ease... we don't want gomez we r REBUILDING not RETOOLING.. there r free agents in 2010 that we need our cap space for... he's making as much as kovalchuk and performing 1 third of him... soo don't even dream about it... unless there is like 3-4 first rounders coming to the leafs... let rangers suffer with gomez.. that wat NY gets with all there money being thrown around i hope Yankees get it as bad as well... AGAIN...

I like this trade.. Ranger fans need to understand that the team needs to retool. They're barely a playoff team this year and with all the awful contracts they have locked up for the next 3-4 years they won't be able to make any changes during this time. Enjoy another 3-4 years of mediocrity with the same lineup Ranger fans!

um ok..why is hollweg on this line-up first of all..we can have two scrappers in may and mayers but hollweg will just cause penalty problems..

and where is moore, williams, and bell..i would consider them having more of an impact then hollweg 8-)
Bell Was picked up by NYR on waivers
