Kris Letang

What would he be worth to your team? Or what other young defensemen have similar value?

I know he's not going to be traded but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks about him. People have said he plays a similar game to Dan Boyle (obviously not as good as Boyle yet though).

5'11"... 190 lbs... 21 yrs old... drafted 62nd overall in 2005.

Letang would be part of a package.

His value will go up next year when he signs his extension through RFA.

He's worth more to us than any other team.

Low cap hit this year and next and a lot of upside.

He's fast, has great hands, really good wrist shot and can play physical for his size. Not the type of young D-Man you want to trade.

no thanks.

letang will be in his final year of his entry deal next year, cheap, and then he'll still be an RFA.

I was surprised to see Letang healthy scratch against the habs... is he having a bad season?

Not that ever want to see the Tang traded...but I'm not sure about the Boyle comparison really...I think Tanger is better defensively, better hitter...in my scouting report of him, I called him:

Quote:
Career role: Second pairing two-way defenseman, like a bit more talented version of Carlo Colaiacovo without the injuries
Likely potential: #2/#3 Two-way defenseman that thrives on the power play
Maybe that's not quite spot-on, but player comparisons are tough...

I'd say he's been our best defenseman this year as a whole...

No Lombardi isn't a pending UFA. He is signed next year at 1.8 million.

He's had a tough stretch the past few weeks. Overall, an up and down season. You see flashes of greatness and then a lot of blunders. It's a smart move by the new coach to demand more of him because he has a lot of ability and can always do better.

Letang = the future of the Pens defense

I wouldn't even think about trading him until draft day 2010.

Non-starter. After Gonch, he's the most valued defenseman on the team.

I think he's a more Brian Campbell type with the potential to be a little better defensively.

I really, really doubt Letang is going to be moved anytime soon unless there was an offer Shero simply had to take involving Letang that would land us a legit winger. That said I assume Whitney will be traded long before Letang is. We need some cheap 1st/2nd contracts on the team that bring solid play to the table.

I know letang is not going to be moved. But what would he get if he was? Or what other young D-men is he comparable to? Edler maybe?

One could make the argument that Orpik is more valuable, as he is the only physical defensive defenseman who skates well and is signed to a friendly contract.

have you heard about Derek Meech? He is much better than Letang meaning that the guy under questions will never be moved for more of less good NHL player.

Derek meech doesn't campare to Letang in any Category. Meech maybe a little more comparable to goligoski but still not close. Lol Detroit gave away Kyle Quincy to LA which was there best D man Prospect.l after the Lidstrom Era which will only be a few more years Detroits D will be terrible.

And he is a healthy scratch three games in a row? Care to explain that? With Whitney out, he played last night and only Hal Gill played fewer even strenth minutes.

Sounds to me like he is the extra defenseman with Gonchar and Whitney in the lineup.

This is great. The guy is a better defensively Brian Campbell type and the 2nd most valuable D on the team....scratched 3 games in a row. Those two things don't dance unless there is a 3rd dancer. A reason not mentioned. What?

Lets be honest. Pittsburgh is fighting for their playoff lives. They need to win everynight. And so...they healthy scratch their #2 defenseman ?

He had a bad game or two, prompting him to be scratched. They won their next two games, he was back in after the next loss. It appears to me that Bylsma is the kind of coach that isn't going to change the lineup after a win if he can avoid it.

Letang had back to back 2 goals games a couple weeks ago, it's not like he's been playing terribly. He's just still a little inconsistent at times, that shouldn't surprise anyone, he's 21 years old and only in his second full season.
