Minnesota-Flyers

If the Wild cannot sign Backstrom and decide to trade him, but are still in the playoff push, I think a trade between these two teams could be arranged.

To Wild:
Biron (3.5 cap hit) UFA 2009
Briere (6.5cap hit) UFA 2015
2nd round pick in 2009
Andreas Nodl
Conditional 1st round pick 2010 of Backstrom re-signs
Total cap hit (10mil)

To Flyers
Backstrom (3.1 cap hit) UFA 2009
Kim Johnsson (4.850 cap hit) UFA 2010
Eric Belanger (1.750 cap hit) UFA 2010
Conditional 2nd round pick in 2010 if Biron re-signs
Total cap hit (9.7mil)

I packaged Briere in there because Biron was the reason he came to Philly (french connection) but for salary cap purposes you could probably swap him for Lupul if you wanted I just figured that Philly had enough depth down the middle to make the trade. Salaries work out fine.. Philly gets a great netminder and a decent puck-mover while Minny gets a capable goalie a good C when healthy some good picks and a good RW prospect..

Thoughts and suggestions?

Why is it that they can't sign Backstrom? I see many claim so but what is the basis of that?

'Biron is the reason Briere came to Philly'

If Briere just wanted to follow Biron his whole career, he wouldn't have signed an 8-year deal right after Biron signed for just 2.

prefer Zidlicky to Johnsson.. cheaper great shot he is small thou but this trade does give us a goalie but we dont have any more salary space and needing to sign a goalie.

Johnsson provides more of what the Flyers need than Zidlicky does.

Will Briere fit in Lemaire's system? Or is there just going to be a lot of Gaborik-esque friction?

i think Briere honestly would do well in Minnesota. solid defense around him and he is a play maker to help set up who ever his line makes are.

oh i agree but Zidlicky is a UFA at seasons end i believe and if we made this trade we wouldnt have an salary to sign a goalie this summer any goalie.

Id actually be interested in dropping Johnsson and adding Foster. solid physical dman and loads of cap relief.

There won't be anyone worth giving a big contract too anyways. Zidlicky provides less of what the Flyers need, he's an up-tempo defensemen and we have too many of those.

the flyers don't have a 2009 2nd round DP, do we?

if we're also getting a d-man in this trade (Johnsson), we would have to move one of ours aswell because we would simply have a logjam back there

Briere does not/has not indicated that he wants to waive his NMC. Until he does, including him in trade discussions is pretty pointless.

how does a team who wants a playoff push trade away their starter who is one of the best in the world?

Take out the conditional picks and Eric Belanger, and make the 2009 2nd a 2009 3rd.

Briere, Biron, Nodl, and a 2009 3rd for Backstrom and Johnsson. The Flyers could then trade Randy Jones for a 3rd to someone.

Because if they cannot resign him, they might as well get something for him... they are already afraid of losing Gaborik for nothing, so they do not want to have the same problem with Backstrom...

Because on HF, it's more worth it to get as much as you can for you best players in trades, than putting a team together and try to win.

You would have to trade Jones first for the salary cap to work I would imagine.. they are pretty close up against and adding 10mil to the cap while only sending 7.9 back.. but yeah that could work nicely if they can get the relief first.. thanks

If Backstrom is avaliable at the trade deadline, even though he is a UFA,Phi will have to look at Carter or Richards in the deal-imo........too expensive for Phi then.

Reason is backstrom has been one of the top goalies in the last couple of years,he's young and premium goalies are expensive...........if they dont resign him,he'll more likely go before July 1st deadline.........They could trade him to Ott for one of their big guns, with a conditional pick going the other way (in case they dont sign him).Ott takes a gamble but finally gets a top notch goalie.

you are so far off its rediculous. Backstrom will not garner that much as an UFA and Ottawa would prolly rather wait and see if he made it to UFA rather then pay that huge of a price.

Biron <<< Backstrom
Briere = Johnsson
Nodl (#6 in Flyers prospects, project #2 RW), 2nd round pick > Belanger
Conditional 2nd < Conditional 1st

Wild get fleeced.

There is no UFA goalie on Earth who would garner Richards or Carter in return.

No GM in his right mind would take Biron as his goalie of choice in the playoffs.

Also, Briere is overpaid, and would be worth less to the Wild than Johnsson and Belanger are (The Wild play a defensive system, and both are very good defensive players).

Many thought that last year.
