No on that Kovy deal
Yes on the Carney deal
Yes on the Dowd deal
I wouldn't give up Hainsey & Hossa for Simon & Barnaby :barf
Same here...3 exellent prospects for 3 veterants is not very good. Carney would have cost a lot more then a third round pick but for that price, it would have been a steal for us and I'm pretty happy with Dowd.
I think Carney would cost *alot* more than a 3rd pick, but if that offer was on the table I'd take it for sure! I'd do all of those deals actually...although Simon and Barnaby probably aren't needed together.
Balej and 2nd was already lot for something that could easily be just playoffs rental - giving up on Hainsey and Hossa would put the rebuilding program a year behind, at the very least. Habs are nowhere near being true contenders, even Kovalev isnt going to make us one. You start turning team into one when your core makes playoffs on regular basis, not twice in five years. Now someone might bring up 'but we have so many prospects', if you trade three every spring, all of a sudden there arent many left.
Infact I wouldn't have minded keeping Balej and 2nd. Kovalev is cool, but I have this feeling he might not have much impact since hes another right winger we had before. That boost he gives is lost in the line dance with either Zednik, Ryder or Kovy himself playing their weaker side. Maybe get someone natural leftwinger - like Brunette along with Dowd for added scoring punch.
