Are you serious? 67 is epic. Common, its a slap in the face of every Leaf and Leaf fan out there, I love it.

D'Ago I could care less about.

A UFA borderline fourth liner is prolly not worth a pick.

Good move for the cap space, if used properly. Would have preferred to receive a pick even if it was a 6th rounder. If I understood Martin McGuire from CKAC correctly, Gainey says that the reason he asked for Janik was to give us some depth if there would be more injuries. Said that we have 6 d-men right now, and that likely O'Byrne and now Janik could be first callups if needed. Honestly, I don't see what Janik has that Henry doesn't have. And more importantly, Dandenault would be a much better on D than Janik would be.

I like Bégin for his heart, his commitment, his PK play and the fact that he's throwing bodychecks and could fight (and lose) in some occasions but hated the fact that he keeps taking bad penalties because of his energy as well.

So nothing to panic about either way, again, hate to see a good guy dedicated to the Habs like he was go and would have preferred a pick instead of Janik, but then clearly there was no room for him in the lineup.....at least that's what Carbonneau thinks.

I'm convinced Gainey asked for the same thing but no team would offer picks. The other option was keeping him for the pressbox and letting him go this summer.

He's not an asset. It's so funny how fans overrate their players. Begin is a fringe NHL player that couldn't even get into the lineup. I admire Begin's heart but his skills have gone down hill from age and injury. This move was nothing more than a cap space move and Janik means nothing.

Gainey did this trade with one thing in mind. What's best for Steve.

He didn't want Steve to rot, he deserved better. Unfortunately, I don't think Bob could have gotten much from him anyways. That' why we got a no name defenseman who has some experience. If our D would go ballistic due to injuries. We would be able to call up a Dman who needs a second chance in the nhl and who has experience. If the dman is taken from waivers, well, more space for cap and not a huge loss.

This seems to be a trade that helps both teams. Dallas get a healthy energetic O, seeing how a lot of theirs are injured, we get some reinforcement for our D just in case and we make room for cap which smells of either a trade or resign(but I think it is a trade like most of you).

I'm happy for Begin. I won't be booing him whenever we play against him. Unless he has some grudge and shows it on ice.

The other night the guys on AntiChambre - think it was Beregon - said that Begin would play no longer for the Habs. Begin also told him that Gainey said if they weren't gonna use him, he would make sure to trade him.

I think today Gainey kept his word and amade the classy move. I liked Begin. I wish some of the other players had half his heart but truth be told his body couldn't take it anymore.

Best of luck to a warrior.

I hope he's gonna beat the crap out of Laraque !

I didn't say anything about BGL, I don't know what Begin has to do with him.

With Kostopolous, Stewart and Lapierre... the guy was redundant. There was no place for him.

BGL, say what you will, brings something unique to the team.

Plus, he has a no movement clause.

Right, almost no one (if at all) changes numbers mid-season.

I can see someone grabbing it in camp next year, like Plekanec did to 14.

I'll admit I'm a little bit sad about this. Bégin was one of my favourite players even though his intensity sometimes got the better of him. I'll always remember his heart and the way he could instil passion through the Canadiens's bench after one of his big hits. I wish you well Steve.

Begin: "Hey guys, just for the hell of it, wouldn't it be funny if we all requested trades?"

Dandy: "OMG, we should totally do that!!"

BGL: "Nice! But look, look, if this is going to work, we have to practice our serious faces, like this."

I was expecting some big trade deals but wow, this was a true blockbuster. The Habs are now certainly favorites to win the cup... For the sake of Mtl fans, let's hope there's something else coming soon.

What a ****ing bonehead move! Begin is very serviceable for this creampuff team in the playoffs..
Stupid plays by Begin have ended the Canadiens season two seasons in a row. I think I'll pass on his "serviceable" play this spring, thank you very much.

The fact is the Steve Begin everyone fell in love with in his first full season in Montreal has been long gone for a while now. That year he hit everything that moved, chipped in offense, fought, and was an all round pain in the ass.

The last two + years of injuries ended that and that type of play. His body will not allow him to play the game he needs to in order to remain effective.

Best of luck

Did anyone else hear BG say " he is only looking for a depth centerman" ?
Cmon Bob same old same old ? I hope your just playing a little poker, because personally i will be real disappointed if you don't make a serious move. We'll see i guess !

Well if a better Centre is available, I'm sure adding Joki pushes Chipchura down the line, creating "depth at centre".

Bob can't really say "I'm looking for an impact Centre" because we all know how well that turns out in this town if a deal can't get done.
