Begin traded to Dallas

Not confirmed by Dallas but here is the translated version from RDS

Quote:
Steve Bégin was traded to the Dallas Stars on Thursday afternoon.

En retour le Canadien obtient Doug Janik. In return the Canadian gets Doug Janik.

Plus de détails à venir. More details to come.

It's confirmed. TSN is now confirming it as well.

It's not quite the blockbuster you had hoped for, but the Stars have acquired Steve Begin from Montreal for D Doug Janik.

Begin is a left-handed center who can play all three forward positions.

He's a decent role player who fills a need for right now at a very low cost.

He will not be in the lineup tonight, but should be at the game.
Confirmed by Heika

It's been confirmed on TSN. I really hope this opens the way for Dallas to trade Lundqvist at the deadline. Begin brings most of the same elements and Dallas can get a higher pick from Joel.

Janik for Begin is okay in my book. I'd rather pay a player to play than sit in the press box.

A great deal for the Stars they give up a healthy scratch for a useful player.

Pretty sure his contract is up after this season.

Agreed. Janik was eighth on the d-man depth, and Begin is a nice player for a lower line.

Heika says he will be in Dallas tonight, but he will not play.

The guy has 119 hits in only 42 games. To compare, Steve Ott has 150 in 42 games.

Only 78 taken this year, he is 53.8% in the faceoff circle.

He plays about a minute on the PK per game.

Edit: I forgot the best part, he's another Quebec native traded for a defenseman Dallas didn't need.

I love how Montreal has continued to just hand us their team since we moved to Dallas.

Bégin was about 18th in our forwards deapth chart...all he had was intensity, but it's long gone now.

it kind of sucks to be Janik though. He has moved all over the place this season.
1. Dallas picks him up off waviers
2. Blackhawks pick him up off waviers
3. Dallas trades for him (7th)
4. Mtl trades for him
I do believe I have that correct, feel free to correct me if I messed that up

You guys will love him. He's one of the biggest warriors I've ever seen. I'm sad to see him go, but it just wasn't working out for him in Montreal anymore.

I was about to say the same thing.

Bégin was awesome.

I still don't understand why we did that.

At least we have another body to play...seems like less and less of that around Dallas right now.

If Janik can get in a few games with the Canadiens, I doubt he'll care how much he's moved around this year. I actually didn't think he was bad in Dallas and wonder if he would have gotten more playing time if he didn't catch a puck in the face during his first game as a Star and miss time.

We have pretty much absolutely noone else to play for us.

Anybody we get that's a forward is useful at this point.

Pretty sure that I saw somewhere that he's already on waivers to be sent down to Hamilton

Maybe he gets claimed by another team then. Optimism is a wonderful thing.

This is Dallas' 4th player trade this year. Hey Lobo, what is the record for Stars' trades in 1 year?

Edit: It's the 5th if you count the trade with LA for Lauri Tukonen.

I love how we play Montreal in a little over a week from now. He'll get to play his old team almost right away.
