That brings us to the latest “Tim Connolly is headed for [insert team]” chatter making the rounds in recent weeks. This one had the pending unrestricted free agent going to Columbus, where the Blue Jackets have been clamoring for a center of Connolly’s ilk.
And why not?
Connolly alongside Rick Nash would be frightening with the big winger manning the left side and the right-handed center wheeling and dealing the way he can when healthy. Nash potted 26 goals before their game Tuesday in Calgary, an output that would soar past 40 with a true playmaker to his right.
Coming back, supposedly, would be defenseman Rostislav Klesla. The 6- foot-3, 225-pounder has been sidelined since Feb. 10 with a shoulder injury, but should be back soon. Klesla, 26, taken fourth overall in 2000, is signed through next season at $2.25 million.
I know it's simply speculation, but what would you think of that deal?
Yeah, trading Connolly for a defensive D-man (which I'm assuming this guy is, looking at his stats) doesn't seem like the best option given their current goal scoring woes. Not that I'm opposed to getting a D-man, but Darcy better have more moves in mind.

I am not fine with Connolly being traded. i in fact think we need to work on improving our Offense rather than our D. I am one that thinks Lydman, Hank, Spacek, Sekera, Butler, Rivet as our top 6 is fine with Teppo and Nathen as 7,8.
I want Connolly re-signed and if we need to shake things up see what we can get for Max and a pick, or max and Kotalik and a pick, or some combination of all that. Although Kotalik has been rippin shots on the PP lately...
I wonder if Regier will pull a double move ala Connolly to C'Bus and then pick up Matt Lombardi who is under contract for 2009-10?
And if not Lombardi, some other center that the Sabres feel can play on the top 2 lines and is either signed beyond this season or is at least a RFA after this season.
Bet case would be adding someone like Olli Jokinen, but my guess is that the Sabres would opt for a cheaper player like Lombardi.

I'd like to make a run into the playoffs but Timmy's value right now is relatively high. He could get hurt in the next game and there goes all his value, he can only stay healthy for so long and he's had a nice little stretch here. I'd be very surprised to see him stay healthy for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs (if we were to make it).
Interesting idea. They'd get Klesla for a season before he hits UFA for Connolly. It would have to either be A) Regier deciding to sell and writing off the playoffs or B) he has a slam-dunk replacement ready for Connolly. With that many variables, I don't see it as a typical Regier move for B)... so it would be a sell-off.

i would do this deal, IF and ONLY IF he acquired a center from somewhere else first.

I like Klesla a lot.
Klesla is a 1.25 year guy -- he's UFA at the end of his current deal and I would suspect that a 8-year vet at 26 years of age is going to be out of Regier's price range in the summer of 2010.
It might point to Buffalo moving a defenseman as part of a package for another forward.

I agree that if we move Timmy for Kesla we won't be re-signing Kesla. Thats prettyfar down the road but still, it doesn't seem likely.
I think Timmy right now is more valuable to us than kesla could be next year (with Butler and Weber and Sekera probly all ready).
We've also heard straight from Darcy that he wants to re-sign Connolly and wanted to do it soon. Isn't that right? I persoanlly don't see Darcy moving our arguably most talented player.

but too bad Spacek got injured last night. he would probably be the guy moved, no?
May I ask why? Tallinder has been good to great since his return.

Keep Spacek. Hope to resign him.
Agreed on the physical part, not too sure on the blocking shots bit, but as far as his play falling off the map, haven't you noticed that the defense has looked much better since his return, particulary on the PK? I think you may be reaching with the injury prone a bit. Spacek has played in 261 games post-lockout while Tallinder has played in 246 games.
Going OT for a minute, I want to apologize for putting for putting Hank in the bad last night. I watched his shifts again on my DVR recording of the game and I have come to the conclusion that I was somehow drunk while I was originally watching him play last night.

A handful of good games is great. However, based on the past 2 years that seems unlikely to continue. Everyone whines that Connolly is injury prone. What about hank??? 3 shoulder injuries in 2 seasons???
