He has an injury this year. Yes it sucks, but he's got an 8 year deal, it was going to happen 1 or 2 of them. Did you not read the stories about the NHL basically ordering the Flyers to activate him? There is NO way they would have let him sit on LTIR until the playoffs.

Hes not a cancer. Hes just injury prone and signed to a ridiculous contract in an age where the cap makes life difficult for clubs that like to spend big. Blame Homer... not Briere.

Yeah, real injury prone. One season in the last 7 where he missed more than 4 games before this year.
He played like Wellwood early in his career which is why he landed on waivers. He would have had to try to get hurt playing the way he did.

He didn't come out for the third, and all we know is it's a lower body injury.

They can't make him play if he's hurt. Briere could file all kinds of lawsuits. It's happened to the Flyers and there wasn't even a salary cap then. If the guy is legitimately hurt then he shouldn't play. They should have kept him on IR until after the deadline anyways.

They wouldn't have forced him to come up the other day, either...however. If he wasn't ready...then he shouldn't have been playing.

Maybe he was ready but he's tweaked it. It's entirely possible that he's sore because he's only been back for 2 games. I think everyone needs to stop jumping to conclusions until we hear something.

Holmgren: “Well right now all that we know is that he tweaked his groin again, and we’ll see how it is tomorrow. He’s having a little bit of a tough time right now with it; probably as much mentally as physically. I feel bad for him. He’s had this issue pretty much most of the season and to come at this point in our season is not good news.”

He feels bad for him? How about everyone that's been affected by Briere's pointless return to the lineup?

God ****ing dammit.

The timing of his return is immaterial to the need to make a move at the deadline to prepare for his return.

At some point he was coming back...just the way it was.

Well ****. What do we do now?

I really wanted to see Giroux and Briere work together more.

Homer thinks Brier's problem is mental - he says that twice in the post game interview.

Not that I don't think it's possible, but there's also a strong dose of wishful thinking there. It's clearly a better situation if it's just a mental hurdle he needs to cross.

Well there's something that pisses me off. I knew his comments from just before his return were masking the fact that he wasn't 100%.

I know you want to contribute, Danny, but stay off the ****ing ice until you're 100%. Not 95%, not 99.9%, 100 ****ing %.

understatement of the year.
good grief.
at this point IR him for the rest of the regular season. there is no point now in bringing him back until at least the start of the playoffs.
This is just like the Forsberg footgate fiasco.
ridiculous.
I can see Holmgren's point in it being a mental game with Briere. If he cant trust himself to go out and give it 100 percent then he shouldnt be playing. if he is playing and he scared to "go all out" then hes not helping matters in the least.
He just needs to shut it down until April. Make the decision then about the playoffs. If hes ready fine, if not fine. This team has shown it can play some good hockey without him. Wont hurt my feelings in the least if we dont see him again in training camp in 09/10

Wishful, yet uninformed, thinking.

Homer mentioned a "blood bubble" that sounds a little more than a "tweak"

Let's just see how it works out, maybe he only misses another few games. I'd rather have him come back later than too early, groin injuries are so much trouble. He didn't look as explosive as he did last year.
