Well he stands out not only for his great season, but because he is the first born and raised Pittsburgher to play for the team. He is a needed "feel good" story for the hockey community, and is unique in that way. Pittsburgh likes thier local boys, so, as I am obviously talkin about Ryan Malone, Pittsburgh hockey has embraced him in a big way.
And deservedly so. He is going to be a great player for the franchise for a long time.

Noah Clark for the Kings. He played 2 games earlier this season. (not many players from CA, so we need to bend the rules a little)

I was raised in Bergen County, New Jersey (Garfield, then Park Ridge, and Montvale). The only player I know is Paul Mara who was born in Ridgewood, NJ which was about 15 minutes from where I lived

The next captain of the Capitals, Jeff Halpern, was born and raised not an hour away from the MCI center.
