ye, hockey in that region is next to non-existent. When I lived there, I think there was 1 skating rink - for figure skating (no boards and so on)

They were going to build 1 hockey rink in Taganrog, but built pools instead.

Who knows, if a team comes to Sochi it might spring some interest in the region. Have to start somewhere.

I remember "снежинка" the ice was horrid and it wasn't open much but I idid go there a few times in the late 80's early 90's.

there's an annual tournament in Rostov - like Southern Cup or something, but the teams are semi-professional at best.

yes, but for me is more important info from this article that Dynamo - Shinnik will play at Junior Club World Cup in Omsk ... it was such a great idea and now it seems to be "disaster".. in inaugural season

Hockey Canada will be sending Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Junior A level to the Junior Club WC.

I hope that MHL teams, CSKA especially, tear them apart. Would be a good message for Hockey Canada- but of course it will go completely unannounced unless they win.

yes, I know about Oil Barons.. therefore I am saying about "disaster", no Finns, no Suiss, I dont know about US team. Thank God for sweden champion. It is inaugural season. Maybe it will develop in future.

The important thing is - it has the backing of IIHF, which means it has potential to grow in the future. There is potential that Hockey Canada will consider sending a stronger team next time- if Oil Barons don't do well. Something tells me that they will cover it up and abandon it if that's the case.

Hopefully Finns and Swiss join in the future when the see the caliber of the tournament.

Shestopalov was apparently traded in 2010 for 25-year old goalie Konstantin Barulin (Atlant<->CSKA). Fifth among '93 MHL defensemen in PPG, is the young giant Shestopalov displaying any traits of a premier prospect?

All the VHL teams (if I understand correctly) will have a junior team in the MHL-B as of the next season - truly great news!

I was happy to hear as well. Just wondering what will happen to Ladia and other similar cases.

I would be very interested to see Kazzic-Torpedo, im a fan
(hopefully the fact that their from Kazakhstan does not mean they wont participate)

it is still unclear whether foreign teams have to field one or not (probably optional). I heard Donetsk will field a team next year. Efimov also had said that the last two teams from the MHL-A will relegate to the MHL-B and two top teams from the "B" would promote. Not sure how all that would work out considering the major discrepancies in budget demands between the leagues.

As for Kaztsinsk-Torpedo - I dunno what state their school is in...Had it been 10-15 years ago - I would think - they have no problem fielding a competitive team - nowadays - not sure.

My biggest question regarding team swaps between division is also a budget one. If a team is in a B-division that most likely means they can't afford A, how in the world would they afford it all the sudden if promoted... simple logic or am I missing something?

It's a nice idea and it works great in EPL, but there is no return on being in the top flight MHL! Although I'm all for Rostov winning the Kharlamov Cup in 2 years

I read at Znojmo webpage in april/may that they should participate. I dont have any idea what happened.

As I said, I am disappointed by final list of participants. No czech, swedish champions. USA/CAN will sent provinsional teams...

I know it is also about money and contacts, but I am sad. I hoped that Slovakia will be representated by junior champion - HC Kosice. But Vlci will play MHL, they have contacts for organisators of tourney. The same with Karlove Vary, as we know, club and city have connections to Russia

teams in MHL B (second junior league):

Barys Astana (KHL, Kazakhstan)
Dizel Penza (VHL)
Kristall Berdsk
Mechel Ceľyabinsk (VHL)
Molot Perm (VHL)
SK Odintsovo
Prizma Riga (Latvia)
Dinamo Riga "b" (KHL, Latvia)
Karaganda (Kazakhstan)
Sokol Krasnoyarsk (newcomer VHL)
Toros Neftekamsk (VHL)

Do you know something about Odintsovo and Berdsk? Which league do their seniors play?
I though that MHL B will have at least 20 teams...
