begin wants constant ice time and not the sporadic ice time he was getting for the habs.. this was a chance for him to "show himself" to other teams for the rest of the season to earn himself a new contract in the off-season

I know that it may come as a surprise to some here, but to most knowledgeable hockey fan, Gainey is a class act.

Begin spoke to Gainey about his utilization, Gainey understood that Steve is a UFA at the end of the season and if he doesn't play, it could be the end of his career.

Gainey would have liked to keep Begin for depth but because to thank him for his quality years of service in Montreal, he traded him where he'll get a better chance to play.

When players say that Montreal is a class act organization (not my words here), people should take note. They didn't trade him for the return, but rather to accommodate.

Similar to when they traded Patrick Traverse back to SJ a few years ago.
