Ryan Smyth?

- While reports out of Colorado seem to refute Ryan Smyth trade rumours, the Ottawa Sun says that the Canadiens are investigating the possibility of acquiring Smyth.

He's like Kostopoulos with offensive skill. Hell yes (as long as the return isn't steep)

wait how many years does he have left

I think the cost of Smyth will be high, and with that price I believe we should go after a younger and better player down the middle.

the cost will be negligible as he has 3 years at 5 mill +. don't want him though. it's a salary dump

That came from Bruce Garrioch. I wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

I love Ryan Smith ... I really do, but at this point I would rather have Keith Ktachuk. I don't want Smith's 3 years at 5 million.

I don't want that overpaid player... and who in hell would we have to trade to make room?

By the way the team has responded to the trades and demotions, I doubt Gainey makes a big trade... maybe a solid D-man to replace Brisebois... but even that I doubt...

Anyway, I hope that Dandy takes Breezer's place tomorow

Completely agree with you, and Tkachuk can play center too...

If he was cheaper, I'd be all over it.

Good analysis of Smyth as an option at The Drive for Twenty Five blog.

Smyth does not have the body and longevity he used to way overpaid for the amount of consecutive games he can play while healthy.

Smyth is grossly overpaid:

$7.250m This year, about $2.175m left.
$6.500m 2009
$5.500m 2010
$4.500m 2011

The biggest thing about Smyth is he will not okay such a trade.

He turned down a longer and higher paying contract with Gainey as a UFA so to me it says he doesn't want to play in the fishbowl of Montreal.

I think the biggest thing about Smyth is his cap hit for the next three years. I absolutely love the guy, but that contract is a cap killer.

yeah 50 pts in 62 games he seem to be slowing down

id take Smyth ahead of alot of guys (Jokinen or Kovalev for example)

on another note i wonder what we need to give up to get Milan Hejduk?
