The Flyers winning the Stanley Cup (1970s celebrations)

My dad was telling me about the year that they won and that the streets were more crazy than when the Phillies won the World Series. I myself went to the Phillies parade but I wasn't alive for the Flyers parade. Did anyone here go?

Was there is spirit only.

Estimates regarding numbers were comparable in size (2.0m for 1974 and 2.3m for 1975).

This is how each parade was described in the following days newspapers:

1974 celebration: "They (fans) blocked the streets, rode on top of cars, sang loudly and obscenely, streaked nude and recreated New Years Eve and World War II combined."

1975 celebration: "Little girls squealed and screamed, old men dance and sang, young boys stripped and streaked, several matrons keeled over and fainted, dozens of childen were lost..." fans were stretched "15 deep for three miles..."

I wasn't at either parade (the Flyers because I wasn't yet alive) and the Phillies because some family problems. As for your dad saying the Flyers parade was crazier, well, people remember things differently when they're younger, so who knows which, if either, was crazier. Here's to hoping we see a Flyers parade this summer.

Sadly, no, in fact I've never been to Philly, but that was the year I switched from the Leafs to the Flyers.

My dad grew up in Philly and he was there and he said that there were a ton of drunk people stripping and stuff. I didn't see any of that for the 08 parade.

I didn't go to the parade in '75, but I remember the night they won, the street in front of my house had people driving down it screaming, waving banners, and being generally loud and jubilant. And that was in Swarthmore!! Not even dowtown. I was also 3 yrs old at the time, so I don't think I really grasped what was going on at the time. However, it is one of my earliest memories (other than getting chicken pox about a week later), and in retrospect I now realize how huge it was.

best was

I think the 2nd Cup at City Hall, young, topless, ample breasted blonde went by on foot.....about 5 seconds later a crowd of about 30 males chasing with tongues hanging.
