NYR/Atlanta (Kovalchuk)

I posted this in a thread on the NYR board and most thought it was an overpayment. Maybe it is a slight overpayment, but NYR fans have a thing about overvaluing their players. Also, If the Rangers were to get Kovalchuk, I feel that a deal similar to this is what it would take.

To Atlanta:
Zherdev
Girardi
Sanguinetti
Dubinsky
Dawes
1st 09
2nd 2010

to NYR:
Kovalchuk

Rags would probably have to move one of their big salaries in the offseason in order to re-sign Ilya long term.

well if that trade happens I hope kovy is ready to play 60min of hockey because the rangers would have nobody else to put on the ice

Saying it's a slight overpayment is like saying Hurricane Katrina was a little storm.

You could prob take the 2010 first pick and 2 players out of this trade and it still might be enough to get kovy....we might as well throw staal in there too

NYR has to take out quite a bit for this to be close to fair.

Take out Dubinsky, Dawes and a nd maybe. But seriously this may be the first NYR trade I have seen the last few months that dont have them pawning off there overpaid crap for Stars. Kudos for actually using players that have value.

How about: (keep in mind that salaries must work)
Scott Gomez or Michal Roszival
Marc Staal
1st 2009
2nd 2010

if we retain Kovalchuk, I think it is worth it.
Its not ideal, but superstars are not easy to come by.
And to get quality, you have to give quality.

It may even be an underpayment.

Kovalchuk is not getting traded. No. I have faith he will re-sign during next season.

Slight overpayment? It's paying $80,000 for a Neon.

Why don't they just give Atlanta the entire roster, the Knicks, Madison Square Garden, all of the networks, and the Statue of Liberty's left foot too?

I think we're talking Sid Geno or Ovy with that package.

Seriously, holy overpayment.

I don't see how this is huge, crazy overpayment. Slight overpayment maybe, but you'll have to overpay to get Kovalchuk.

that's my rationale.

zherdev is a second liner, dubinsky has 2nd line potential, dawes is a third liner who hasn't done **** this year, girardi is a #4 d-man who may develop into a #3 one day. Sanguinetti is a good prospect and the picks are the picks.

Kovalchuk is one of the most enigmatic offensive talents in the league....and he's 25. most of the sarcasm in this thread is unwarranted.
