Craig Weller?

According to Mike Russo's sources, Weller's on the way down to Houston.

Link.

Likely to Houston. I don't see him being claimed.

I'd love to trade Fedoruk for him. The Coyotes signed the wrong goon.

I think he's supposed to return the 15th of Mars.

I'm a bit surprised that Weller has been sent down to the farm because Nolan is injured and Boogaard will probably be suspended for his elbow on Prust. Risebrough has probably brought back Chris Simon from Russia.

As someone who goes to a fair amount of Wild games, I sort of don't get this move. Not that Weller is all that talented, but the WIld are seriously devoid of grit this year other than Clutterbuck (and Boogard but he's useless). Not a ton of guys finishing checks and getting dirty, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't dress him and let him bang.

Okay, Boogaard was suspended for five games which brings us down to 11 forwards. Great job, DR! Unless Pouliot comes up, this little move just might have cost us a playoff spot. Awesome...

ha wait what? the loss of weller and boogard is what will cost this team a playoff spot?

I mean yes having 11 forwards might be a big deal for some teams but how much effective ice time do weller and boogard take up per game anyway? yeah basically none.

if anything itll be having owen nolan injured right now...and thats a stretch....

You can have Fedoruk back. You have to take Hale with him, though. You give us a sixth and we'll toss in a seventh. Deal? Good. Fire up the faxes.

Neither of them play a lot, but playing with 11 forwards when you could be playing with 12 is still tremendously stupid, especially this late in the season where the games are more intense and especially in a game against a divisional rival. It just makes no sense at all to waive Weller at this point.

Maloney, pull the trigger! Coyotes should get him back.. great energy guy. Fedoruk has not been that this year.

There was a reason we let Fedoruk go.

We might take him back if you threw in Jokinen.

Would you settle for Hale, Fedoruk, and Matt Jones?

That way the Yotes can get rid of 3 guys we dont want!

I like Weller but unfortunately he's damaged goods now. There just isn't much room/need for a gun-shy light heavy who will only fight if he has to, and who scores 5-10 points a year. His only chance was if he embraced his role as a fighter, but mutiple concussions have put an end to that. The Wild are embarrassingly soft now.

Someone should tell Weller since he's playing in Edmonton right now.

I'll echo that. I was at both the Calgary and Detroit games last week, and they just don't have any grit other than Clutterbuck right now. In the Calgary game, Boogard was scratched and Weller was sratched. I don't think I saw them lay 10 hits all night.

Dumb move by DR plain and simple. Yet another reason why this team will always be mediocre is his inability to make the sound decisions. I can only imagine what would of happened if the waiver went through and someone picked him up and we had to scramble to get someone called up for the EDM game.

At this point, it has the possibliy of being the straw that breaks the camels back per say of the team. Having the most talent on the ice isn't always the reason you win (ask Preds and Wings fans about that one today).

Waiving Weller is a fine move. He sucks and needs to go. Once he goes unclaimed, he'll be sent down and a different player will come up. The Wild will never be short players. Don't let your anti-DR bias turn into foolishness.

So he does in the middle of a road trip? I'm just saying the decision wasn't sound at all in his judgement to do it now. Why didn't he do it when they were still at home?

I sorta agree. I REALLY REALLY agree the last part of the statement.

Weller has been an okay depth player. Nothing great, just a 4th line guy that can eat 8 minutes per night.

But putting him on waivers will not hurt the Wild nor will we gain anything from it.
