Three-way deal, MTL-TBL-EDM

This…

To MTL:
Vincent Lecavalier

To TBL:
Tom Gilbert
A. Kostitsyn
S. Kostitsyn
PK Subban

To EDM:
Jaroslav Halak
Johan Harju
MTL’s 2nd rd pick in ‘10

MTL gives: The Kostitsyns, Jaroslav Halak, PK Subban, 2nd in ’10.
TBL gives: Vincent Lecavalier, Johan Harju.
EDM gives: Tom Gilbert.

Montreal gets their protégée. Tampa gets a young, offensive d-man on a nice contract, as well as the Kostitsyn brothers and a good prospect. Edmonton gets a potential franchise goalie in Halak, Linus Omark’s linemate in Lulea – Johan Harju – and a 2nd rounder.

Done in a heartbeat from Habs POV, but TB doesn't get enough for Vinny.

Not enough coming back to Tampa to justify trading Lecavalier, let alone Lecavalier AND Harju (I have high hopes for him next year)

Oilers disagree as well, I doubt they are going to help MTL get Vinny out of the goodness of their heart.

To get Vinnie, the Habs are going to have to part with a bit more. Edmonton gets a decent deal, and Montreal gets what they want, but Tampa is left scratching their heads in this one. At least give them a couple picks along with the Russians. Even sending a 1st round pick to the bolts, in addition to your deal, seems like a bit of an underpayment.

Tampa Bay would need to be getting a better return on Lecavlier than this. Montreal does it in a heartbeat and Edmonton, at least considers it.

What a joke.

When has a player ever been traded for 3 TOP roster players, 2 1sts, and a their 2 top prospects for one guy? Seriously, find me an example.

I'm not saying the original proposal is good.. but sometimes people here post the stupidest things.

Philadelphia Flyers traded Ron Hextall, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Chris Simon, 1st round selection (Jocelyn Thibault) in 1993, 1st round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, later traded to the Washington Capitals - Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994 and cash to the Quebec Nordiques for Eric Lindros.

That's about as close as I can think of.

Edmonton is not trading Gilbert for a backup goalie and another prospect. Harju has no more value than Omark.

franchise goalie? Halak is not going to be a franchise goalie lol, maybe a decent # 1.. EDM thinks about it but I don't think we do it.

How about Edmonton just isn't involved in this. Think the Oil would be much more happy about keeping a 26yr old top pairing d-man (locked up for 5 yrs for a bargain) capable of 40+ pts every year and just entering his prime, rather than moving said asset for:

A) "potential franchise goalie" - Halak will be good, no doubt, but "franchise" goalie? By next year he might be good enough to start for 10-15 teams in the NHL. That sounds like "potential #1" goalie, not franchise though (see Kipper, the Marties, Luongo, etc.)

B) A prospect that is a linemate of an Oiler prospect that may or may not play for the Oilers. Do you see the Pens trying to tear apart their roster to get Pouliot and Roussin because Crosby put up killer numbers in the Q with them?

C)2nd rd pick is what it is, arguably the most valuable part of a deal for a young top pairing Dman.

So why do the Oilers add more rather than hang up the phone?

So Edmonton gives up a top pairing young defenseman for potential(not even close to franchise)#1 goalie, a decent propect(EDM has his team mate who is better and younger), and a 2nd pick(which will be around 55th overall). I don't see how this deal helps Edmonton at all. More ****ing propects, picks and potential is the last thing on the Oilers wish list

Oh, funny man. Obviously you have nothing tangible to add, so you just try to make a joke hiding the true joke, which is your knowledge of hockey.

Nobody ****ing cares about Lecavalier anymore. Come on March 4th, about 4, or 5pm
