It's weird not seeing him go on waivers today. We keeping him in Peoria all year then?

Because... maybe someone will pick him up, and we can save half the money we're paying now. That's why.

Except then the Blues would be extremely thin at the goaltending position within the organization. Unless the Blues have a deal in place to bring another backup/minor league goalie in, then I wouldn't expect them to put Manny on waivers.

Wouldn't he have to pass through waivers either way? They can't trade him until he passes waivers. They can't play him until he passes through waivers. Is there any other way?

They could conceivably trade him while he's in Peoria - but no team is about to trade for a guy they'll be responsible for bringing through recall waivers, possibly lose in the process, and thus have nothing to show for the trade.

Exactly. I'd expect us to put him on waivers after the trade deadline, because the losers on goaltending trades are going to be looking elsewhere. Some team with injury-riddled goaltending might have very little choice but to pick him up, and we'd save money at the same time. If he passed through waivers, then that's OK, too -- just send him back down. It's just paperwork, after all.

If the Blues put Manny on re-entry waivers after the deadline and a team actually plucked him from waivers, Manny would then not be eligible for the playoffs for that team since he wasn't on their roster by the deadline...thus, it would make no sense for them to even take Manny off of waivers. Of course, if Manny's not on the Blues' roster by the deadline, he can't play for them in the playoffs either. That's why the most likely scenario is that Manny simply finished the rest of the season with the Rivermen. If the Blues need a goalie after the deadline, they will probably recall Manny since it would be MUCH less likely then that Manny would be claimed. If the Blues somehow made the playoffs though, Manny wouldn't be eligible.

I believe the Manny will finish the season at Peoria. Having the Rivermen make the playoffs has always been important to Blues management so the young players can get some extra games and playoff experience. Ben Bishop has been playing mediocre at best and Holt is still a relative unknown. I believe the Blues ownership thought Manny might propel them into a playoff spot as well as provide insurance if Chris Mason gets hurt. It is unlikely the Blues would get anything meaningful in a trade.

yes but if they wait until after the trade deadline, no team who wants him for a possible playoff run will grab him. If I am correct, if Manny has not passed through waivers and on a roster by 3pm EST today (which is now impossible) he is ineligible to play for that team in the post season.

Makes him valueless to a Blues post season appearance as well and pretty much seals Manny's season.

EDIT
What STL fan in IA said.

So, he is done? What's the point of letting him stay in the minors. We would have to had waived him already to allow him to be eligible for the playoffs. And why would we bring him up just for the regular season. Is Mason taking everything? Idk about Holt, what if we make the playoffs!

then we are either convinced Holt can come in should something happen to Mason or we are making a move today to deal with that eventuality.

Why didn't The Blues then pick up Telkvist for a little more than a 4th rounder (4th + 7th?)? (He went for a 4th).

Because Phoenix is fighting for a playoff spot with us and I bet the asking price "in conference" was alot more than "out of conference". You have to remember just because a player was traded doesn't mean the team had any interest in making a deal with us at any price.

Phoenix is fighting for a playoff spot? Yeah, that's why they traded their best forward while being 9 points out of the 8th spot.
