Hockey at the Linc?

I haven't heard this anywhere, and I just came across it. This would mean no game at Penn State, but hockey outside in South Philly!!!!
Of course, though, they said Philly is currently second in a two-dog race, but I'll take AO and friends with 80,000 Flyers fans.

Here's a transcript of Ron MacLean and Scott Morrison after the Habs-Sens game Saturday on Hockey Day in Canada (Sorry, I Tivoed it and am just watching now).

RON: And you have some news on the Winter Classic?
SCOTT: They're getting closer to making a decision on next year's game and there appear to be two front-runners. One of them is Philadelphia playing in the Eagles' football stadium, and the other is Boston, and there are two choices there -- the Patriots' football park and Fenway, where, obviously, the Red Sox play.
The game there would be Boston against the Montreal Canadiens, and it would be Washington and Philly in the other one.
My sources tell me they're leaning toward Fenway.
Calgary was also in consideration, playing in McMahon (Stamps' football stadium).

Here's to hoping!

I'd go to the winter classic if it was at the Linc.

I can see why they would pick Boston and Montreal though.

The weather in Philly is too unpredictable then though. It could easily not be cold enough or even rain.

Fenway has at least one more set of renovations scheduled for the offseason. It would be assumed that they could be put off. The Red Sox did move up Christmas at Fenway by a week for this December, which would give them nearly three weeks to prepare the stadium for a hockey game.

I remember reading after the Winter Classic that the NHL won't consider Philadelphia because of the weather conditions.

So I remember people complaining when they built the Linc that with all the money they were spending they might as well put a movable roof on it, thus allowing the Superbowl to come to Philly. Instead, they didn't. That probably could have been a solution for this as well. In January it will likely be cold out enough to at least keep the rink frozen, but if there's rain there'd be a problem.

They play hockey indoors where it's warm.

Why not just schedule the game here. It won't rain

I would think a football stadium isn't a possibility. Usually the first week of january is the first round of the playoffs. New Years day is on a friday next year so if it took them 2 weeks to prepare wrigley for the Winter Classic i can't imagine they would be able to be out of there and have that place ready to go by saturday or sunday depending on if the Eagles make the playoffs. I think with their 2 week preparation NFL stadiums aren't very likely because of the conflicting schedules, so I'm going to call ******** on that one. Citizens Bank Park could be a possibility.

Also why would you do Montreal Boston, first off montreal already participated in an outdoor game. Second the proximity between those two teams will make it a very Boston Dominated crowd, which sort of changes what they have been doing with the Winter Classic. I think Flyers Rangers at the new Yankee Stadium or the new Mets Stadium would be awesome.

They did it in a football stadium last year. Although, I guess it was a pretty safe bet that the Bills wouldn't be playing in it in January

It can rain just as easily in Buffalo, Chicago, or Happy Valley.

They played an outdoor game in Las Vegas. Temperature will not be a problem.

The game will not be at the Linc.

I'd go anywhere to see this. They should just have the next classic in Antarctica and yes Fall Out Boy will be playing during intermissions.

1. Id rather they played it at The Bank.

2. If they play in Antarctica and Fall Out Boy plays intermissions, I hope the freeze to death.

That Is All.

FOB tried to play on every continent. I think something happened so they couldn't play in Antarctica. Talk about a waste of money if you ask me.

it can be done.........but not knowing if they birds go to the playoffs or not would make having it at the linc touch a go.........CBP would have a better shot at actually happrning.

I think the weather in Philly is much too erratic. We had a few 60+ degree days in January this year, too risky. I think State College would still be a bit risky but a much better site. I also like the game being held at a neutral site, especially if we played the Pens.

C'mon CGB, rocked at 2:30? You're never gonna make it to the morning.

I was hoping for State College, too. But I'll take a Flyers outdoor game any way I can get it. I was surprised, though, that NYC was not mentioned. Boston, yeah I get it. But Calgary was the third place mentioned. And everyone assumes that as soon as Minneapolis' new outdoor stadium is complete, hockey's on its way.
