let's break it down per player:

----
To CAPS:
Streit

To ISLES:
Schultz
Fleischmann
Osala
1st in 2010
----
Comments: This is the type of package similar to the ones on these boards and the Caps OB's for potential trades to get Chris Pronger... is Streit similar to Chris Pronger? No, they are different players... we need a veteran, crease-clearing, over-all physical, Defenseman with SCP experience... Streit is non of those! Pronger is all!

----
To CAPS:
Hunter

To ISLES:
Nylander
Lepisto
2nd 2010
----
Comments: Personally, I really, really like Trent Hunter's play, his contract (2 mil for 4 more seasons), and he's a RW that would fit nicely on the 3rd line...

Would ANY CAPS FAN do either of those trades from a Caps perspective?

Personally:
No to the Streit trade... probably yes to the Hunter trade...

i agree with FRANKM73 - the Streit deal is just too many bodies & assets for a player who does not fit the bill of what the Caps are really lacking (and i like Streit's game)
- Fleischmann (a 20 goal guy making less than a million)
- Schultz (large positional D man that is young and maxes out at #4-5 in my eyes)
- Osala (our only real power forward prospect who is doing well as a 1st year pro in Hershey)
- 1st round pick in 2010

its just too much for a player that, however much i like his game, does not address the biggest need of the team

i love me some Trent Hunter - i'd take that deal in a heartbeat.

You're right, the trade is terrible.

This also shows that in threads on HF, the most unreasonable and vitriolic posts are the ones that get responses.

But it also shows what silly little hyperboles like, "Hunter doesn't do anything that isn't easily aquired (sic) anywhere " will bring: more silly little hyperboles.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Yeah that makes perfect sense for the Isles. The closer we get to the deadline the more rediculous these threads get.

The more I think about the Hunter trade, the more I actual like that... but I highly doubt he's available and that the aboe trade would pry him from the Isles...

and then there's Nylander's NMC... so he's probably saying no to going to Long Island and a last place team!

you mean the trade, right CP?

I'm curious what you think about the counter-proposal of Hunter for Nyles, Lepisto and a 2nd in 2010?

While I don't think you guys need Streit because you have Poti and Green, he is an exceptional player. Guy has been awesome this whole season for the Isles and has played great defense.

Hunter isn't being moved either, so it is a no from the Isles side as well.

BTW, you guys don't need a Streit, you guys need a Witt. This isn't the late 80's where no one played defense and the Oilers could still win with a pulled goalie. The Caps need a hard nose defender that is decent on their backline.

I have no clue why there are so many Caps proposals for forwards and offensive defenseman, you aren't going any where in the playoffs with those players. You guys need a hard hitting shut down defensive defenseman.

Ya um I wouldn't do Lepisto and a 2nd for Hunter and now you are making us take Nylander back.

The first trade has some decent value, but Isles aren't moving Streit. We finally have a top pairing defenseman, that is harder to find for us than anything you have offered.

yes, the original trade is just terrible in every imaginable way.

the counter doesnt make much sense either except for dumping nylanders contract, but i dont see why the islanders would make that trade.

hunter is signed on for a few more years and isn't a rental. it could even be a little bit overpayment. maybe a 3rd instead of a 2nd?

This isn't the type of players the Caps need.

Green and Ovechkin already man the points on the power play and its what, 3rd in the league right now? Yeah thats something that we don't need to spend strong assets to upgrade. Not saying Streit is a bad player, I was thinking Montreal was crazy for letting him go.

Hunter again is a good player and I guess I could see the Caps making a move for him but I rather not go for him. I like the wingers on the team enough, if the Caps are giving up some of the more valued guys (Osala, Lepisto, Fleischmann) this deadline I rather see it for a strong need, which is a top pairing pk defenseman.

Believe me, no one should be taking what you said in a negative way. You are spot on here.

Don't know what all is involved, but it does look like a deal between these clubs is, or at least was, in the works.

Non-starter for multiple reasons.

Please consider the SPECIFIC needs of both teams when offering up deals. Is that asking too much?

Bloggers only. Chris Botta mentioned something in two postings at PointBlank.com, although he's retreating a bit.

There's this article as well:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/...=lebrun_pierre

Nothing concrete, but perhaps more concrete than just from posters who don't know any better.
