I thought we were already at 50 contracts with Metropolit.

Guess not. Good signing, hopefully he can develop into a capable NHL player, I would also like to see how he does in his first full season in the AHL next year.

Surprised they went three years based on what I've seen to date. Is that a normal term for this type of player?

Yeah, it's a rookie contract. All rookies have a 3-year contract...

Actually, isn't he on an AHL contract now and this contract wouldn't start until next year. That would explain how they can go over the limit.

If the Canadiens signed him, it counts towards the 50 player limit.

As to whether or not it only counts against the 50 when the contract kicks in, it could be, but I don't think so.

Could be, obviously the details are not available. But, a three year AHL contract to a prospect? Is this that common?

not always, obyrne and grabovski were given 2 year contracts, entry level contracts are not always 3 years, but always between 450k and 900k max $ at the NHL level, incentives not included

no, its not, its an NHL contract, --2 way--, meaning your assigned to hamilton

i beleive AHL signs contracts only at the end of the junior seasons, and i also beleive only for the remainder of that year, then it has to be a 2 way NHL contract

Yeah, that was my original assumption as well, just your regular entry level contract.

They were given 2 year contracts because they were 22 years old when they signed. Players who are between the ages of 18-21 get automatic three year entry level deals.

We're at 50 contracted players (49 if you don't count Valentenko) but his contract only starts in 2009-10, so he doesn't count right now.

TSN reports that Conboy went pro after being suspended for an attack on another player. Sounds like Conboy gave a Bertuzzi/Perezhogin combo...

They signed him to keep him playing. He was suspended for the rest of the season. He's playing with the Bulldogs now.

It's not AS bad as they make it out to be. What his teammate did was far worse.

If he adds some pounds to that lanky frame he could be a good enforcer for years to come. He does not ask permission like Laraque either.

Thanks man, needless to say, Gainey has alot of work to do this summer...but the contract limit shouldn't really come into play that much.
