Funny, though, Doug Armstrong was the Dallas general manager when they traded Nieuwendyk to New Jersey. Wonder if Lou misspoke, or if Gainey was still the one doing the dealing.

Not picking on you, just a pet peeve of mine:

Could you please explain what "could of had" means?

That wasn't negative! Maybe ESPN has an inverse relationship with the economy, the economy sucks and ESPN likes hockey.

I thought it was one of those jokes where every player wants to be traded to Toronto/Montreal. Didn't realize how close it was.

That's so cliche to say. If you'd actually pay attention, espn.com does a pretty nice job with their hockey coverage.

True, if Montreal had him signed now it would have been a great pickup.

Or, they could have given up a lot, still lost in the 2nd or 3rd round and then had Hossa go and sign in Detroit anyway.

it's not like he actually got a good return for it

im pretty sure had he dealt with Montreal, the players Atlanta would of gotten would of been more useful.

This was clearly a quantity over quality thing

Waddell truly walks of path of mediocrity

That was interesting, I thought the Hossa bit was the most interesting to see unfold and the Kevin Lowe bit confirms how much of an idiot he is.

Montreal probably would have offered better players. My guess is lapierre and higgins were in play but Atlanta wanted 3 roster players and a pick/prospect.

very good read.

But I'd be worried if I was a Pens fan... the way Waddel described it, the way Shero was dealing with the situation wasn't really great in my eyes, he wasn't really sure of himself and at the end Waddel convinced him to make the deal basically just by saying ''You're getting a great player''!

So the Oilers missed out on Smyth because of 100k... Wow.

I bet the Oilers spend that much on sticks in a year...

Actually, I thought Waddell came off like a rube there. Good job by Shero to string him along until it was too late for Waddell to get a better offer from anyone else.
