What do you put over your tape? Wax, Baby Powder or...

This applies only to ICE hockey: I was playing some shinny recently and switched it up to baby powder after hearing Gretzky did it. I noticed I was having less snow build up on my blade as compared to using surfers wax. I don't know however if I've seen anyone else using baby powder in person. So which do you use, if any?

Well, considering I just played an open skate for ice hockey for the first time I put nothing. But at the end I realized that there was a load of ice on the blade. No one told me otherwise so now I know that I have to put something on the blade.

I chose nothing (out of ignorance)

i use wax now but used to use baby powder when i was kid. the baby powder was really good but only for a little while. after handling the puck for whatever shifts per period, the powder would be gone and the snow buildup would come. wax stays on the tape better and any snow buildup will scrape off easily.

Candle Wax. I find some old taper candles in the house and generously coat the blade. Been ruing candles since I was a kid. The wife HATES it.

They also have some stuff called blade butter than is not bad. It looks like a stick of deodorant, but it is just a softer wax.

I religiously wax my tape. It lasts a couple sessions that way.

wax all the way. Mr. Zogs has been the best that I have used, works even better if you soften it up with the heat gun as your putting it on.

I use a wooden stick because I kick it old school! I use wax as well and I pull the tape off of my blade after every session. Am I wasting tape or is this a good idea?

Wax the blade, baby powder the knob.

I just started using baby powder on the knob after I saw Hartnell do it on Day in the Life. It's great for a freshly taped butt end that is too sticky. It keeps your gloves from sticking to it.

Neither of these techniques make me a better player though

I use a wood stick and do the same thing (except when I get home late and I forget, like last game). I've been told it helps preserve the life of the blade.

This is what I do. The wax seems to make the the white cloth tape I use on the blade last a few ice sessions (before it would last like a period). The baby powder keeps the black cloth tape I use on the knob from destroying the palms of my gloves and keeping the stickyness down. I apply it liberally and rub it in every few weeks when I feel the grip starts feeling sticky again.
