Well, it was a first period. Nah it wasn't that bad, but there were certainly stretches where you felt this game had the potential to seriously come off the rails. The Flames were decidedly sloppy in their own end for a good five or so minutes, and allowed the Sens to charge around ice pretty much at will. Then the Flames decided to play their system and took the period over and denied the Sens much of anything from the second Sens goal forward.
The penalty kill well was sloppy. They never really pressured the Sens, and once the Senators gained the zone that was really all she wrote for the pk. Kuba trickled a goal in between the legs of Kipper and thus endeth the man advantage. The PK these last two games has been less than what we expect as fans. Having been spoiled all season, I suppose I just demand a better effort. There was no power play for the Flames in the First Period.
Man, Jarome is on FIRE!! He's got two goals already and really is doing everything on the ice. I said to someone today that Jarome *IS* the Calgary Flames, wll and in the First this was a completely literal truth. He did it all. Also worthy of mention is the stellar play of the Quad City line. Those call up boys are playing well above their heads and marking out future territory for themselves. Congrats to Peters for the goal and Vander Gulik for the assist!! Very Very impressive! Kiprusoff has looked right solid and can't really be blamed for those goals, as the first one was a lucky trickler and the second goal for the Senators was a picture perfect tip. Dion is looking shaky though. Not bad, just a touch shaky on the puck.Get angry, play with some heart, something.. anything. Just stop with all the bad giveaways.
