Schubert is signed for another season after this one.

Then I guess the 5th would do the job... But I think the guy could be a usefull player... but since I've only seen him play a few games mostly in his early years,(havent followed the Sens much in the last two years) I might overvalue him a bit

As a Schubert fan, he has the potential to be a real good defenseman / energy forward. Someone just has to knock some hockey sense into him.

I don't think so, but hey.

It's true that he deserves to be in the press box right now, but teams needing physicality/grit need players like him.

Well, I sympathize for the team every time Schubert's in the line-up, does that count?

As long as by "the team", you mean the Senators, then yes, I believe it counts.

Why would I sympathize for the other team? All they get out of it is free powerplays.

Slightly OT, but whenever my friends play NHL 09 online, we always yell "GOD DAMMIT SCHUBERT" when someone keeps taking stupid penalties. At one point, my friend made the announcer say his name as "Schubert".

Yes and no... yes to no tradebacks, no to running as we want to see him in the Habs lineup. After all, it is our turn to get gratuitous power plays.

I keep Schubert on my Calgary dynasty as the 21st player on the roster to sub in for forward/defense. I put him on the 3rd line for one game and he scored a hat trick.

I benched him anyways, out of spite.

If we got a 5th for McGrattan, in the offseason, Schubert has to be worth a 4th: prices are inflated, and, while Schubert isn't great except for 4th line forechecking, laying the body, and PK playing defense (when he would fill in for a PK D who is in the box regularly: it's a lot simpler to do this than play D 5 on 5), he offers a lot more than McGrattan: completely skill-free and slow, and while he was a decent enough scrapper, the shoulder injuries don't indicate he'll have a long career.

So, in the offseason when nobody is in a hurry to do anything, they got a 5th for McGrattan, who also was part of the "Sens bad-boy rumour club", and they couldn't get a 4th for Schubert who is actually useful in limited situations ?

Reminds me of a used car dealership that puts the 1989 Ford Tempo right in the front of the lot for everyone to see.

It's true that if only Schubie had the elusive "hockey sense", he would be a solid player, as he has the physicality and big shot to be a player.

He'll never get it. You either have sense for the game or don't.

For potential buyers:

Think of Schubert as a better defensively / worse offensively Ric Jackman.

Who wouldn't want a 4th line banger and crasher who can drop back to D on the PK replacing one of your small defensive liability D-man as fill in when a PKing D is in the box ?

Who wouldn't want that ????????

It's more than want, it's need. EVERY GM wishes he had a Christoph Schubert.

schubert's got everything except the brain. He should be added on the wizard of oz as an extra character. Tin-man, straw-man, lion, and schubert.

Think of Cam Barker with more physicality as a Christoph Schubert with hockey sense.

I don't know what made me laugh harder, deking himself out or Richards cleaning his clock.
