It's all about Price. When you don't make that first BIG save and let in a goal, the dynamic in the game changes. The team becomes more tentative. Then the next goal produces an even greater lack of confidence. Then the next one begins the process of self-destruction.
Look at Buffalo, Lalime made the big saves, the team recovered. It's all about goaltending. The Habs were playing great until they let in a goal. Their confidence is fragile and tied to the strength of the goaltending. It's that simple.
The pessimism in here is astounding. A lot of folks apparently haven't come to grips with the idea that we are just another average franchise in the league. It's suck I know, but come to terms with it already. The idea that this team will be the NY Islanders next year is ridiculous. We should never have been considered a cup contender last year or going into this year. I never did. I even voiced concerns and was called a poor fan for being so negative when it was just my worries. A lot of my worries came true but I'm not going to brag about being right about our overratedness. If I'm a fairweather fan, what the hell do you call the real alarmists?
You can't WIN when you can't finish or play any type of system!!!!!
Halak can't score goals!!!
Jeez, some people!!!
There's a thing called confidence. And when you see that your goalie is not making a couple of great saves, with the leadership that we have, with the confidence that we already have, we crumble. Which we did tonight.
worst thing that happened was habs beat vancouver, philadelphia and san jose giving gainey the chance to NOT make any trades.
21,000 idiots are the reason he has done nothing to sign high priced outside players since kovalev 5 years ago WHEN SEATS WERE NOT FULL!
gillette is in it for money, this team probably makes more money than any other team except toronto. that is why the totally incompetant but french speaking gainey is not fired. he has done nothing! in montreal coaching/managing history.
habs havent even played in an EASTERN final series in 16 years.
Blame Price or the defense, you can't go around allowing five-plus goals a game regardless of how it happens, and right now Price does that and Halak doesn't, that's the bottom line.
Price melting down caused this slump to happen in the first place in pretty much exactly the same fashion that Theodore caused the slump in 05-06. Goaltending has to pull your team out of those death spirals, and Halak was doing what Huet did that year.
I hope Price will eventually recover, but right now this team needs Halak to win games.
As for people blaming Gainey, about the only thing he could have done to fix this particular problem was acquire a goaltender and possibly trade Price away -- a risky move at the best of times.
for the first time in my life, I think Bob should be fired... can't believe he didn't do a thing to make this team better
WOW DID YOU SEE THE PLAYERS THAT WERE TRADED THIS DEADLINE? ALMOST NONE ARE IMPACT PLAYERS AND GAINEY DIDN'T WANT TO JEAPORDIZE THE FUTURE FOR A SHORT TERM FIX... You're not the GM, so shut the **** up.
If the defense is the shadow of themselves and Carey Price can't make a save to SAVE his life, how is that Gainey's fault. It's the same ****ING team we had last minus minus Streit, and we added Schneider to replace him, SO SHUT THE **** UP IF ALL YOU CAN DO IS COMPLAIN WITHOUT REASON.
****ing don't need any of these whimpy little *****es around here.
