I'm gonna miss Upshall so much, one of my favorite players.
That being said, I do like Carcillo a lot...he's a beastly fighter, and 10 times the fighter that Cote/Asham is. Is that our missing peice for the Stanley Cup? No. But I do think Carcillo has a lore more scoring upside than he has shown this year, and he could be a force sometime.
I hate Carcillo, I really hate that Upshall is gone, and I really don't understand why Homer would also give Phoenix a second rounder?!? This is a stupid move, it makes us worse instead of better and does nothing to remove some of the pressure the cap is putting on us.
The Flyers just can't stand second rounders for whatever reason. I don't get it. It's a second round draft pick, not a second rate ***** or something. You don't get VD by keeping it around.
I really don't mind Carcillo. I just don't get where the hell he's going to play. You can't have Asham permanently on the third line. You can't have him dressed with Cote and Asham at the same time. He won't be able to keep up with Giroux and Briere. I just don't ****ing get it.
And for everyone saying Upshall is a dime a dozen third line player, consider this: he's the type of player an organization should hold on to, in order to keep some familiarity and consistency with the organization and fan base. In a trade like this, especially, it's a lateral move at best. Throw in the second rounder (does it really piss anyone else off that we don't have another one until 2012?) and it's a loss.
The only thing this does is allow us to carry more than 20 guys. I guess that part's a win, but somehow, we managed to downgrade our depth.
The Flyers were big losers. They were better off doing nothing.
We lost a 2011 second and a 6th. We gained defensive depth that will stay in the AHL until the playoffs, if needed (judging by problems faced in our last 2 deep playoff runs, not a bad thing). We swapped Upshall for a bigger, stronger guy who has probably equal offensive upside.
And FLA wasn't going to add Jokinen and the problem is that they really need a stud forward, I don't think someone like Moore was going to help them much because they already have a lot of 2nd/3rd line guys.
