Dan Carcillo is going have a cult following in Philadelphia by this time next week.

Wouldn't "cult following" imply people will be loving him well after he's gone?

Well it's true. The Flyers were involved in all these rumors for big names and all they ended up doing was overpaying for Carcillo and acquired an overpaid AHL defenseman. They might as well have done nothing.

The Flyers addressed the weak depth on defense and replaced Upshall with a similar player who makes less money. Upshall is an arbitration eligible RFA this summer and the Flyers weren't going to be able to afford his raise. At least they addressed a couple issues.

I wouldn't call them winners, but the Bouwmeester trade was going to come via a massive overpayment. I'm satisfied with the minor moves, even though I'm no fan of Dan Carcillo; hopefully I'll come around.

Phoenix is a clear winner. Not talking about getting Upshall, but they got great return. They traded 4 guys, got 5, all of whom are going to play, contribute, perhaps help the Coyotes climb back into the playoffs, and be veteran players. Oh yeah, they got a 1st, 2nd and 4th. They did a great job.

Chicago could be a sleeper with the addition of Pahlsson. There is a big "if" attached to him health-wise but that could work out well for them.

Pahlsson would have been a dream here. If he becomes a UFA, I'd seriously would consider finding a way to get him signed 1-2 years, but I don't think that's realistic.

That was the underrated move of the day.

I still think Chicago will have an early playoff exit, though.

Probably depends on matchups as oftentimes happens. By early, do you mean first round? The West is very interesting.

They'll have their hands full with Vancouver, who is their most likely first round match-up. I can't see them slipping out of the top 5, but if they do, they'll get Calgary, San Jose or Detroit.

Vancouver is their most favourable first round opponent, based on the probable Western Conference standings, and I'd expect them to bow out to Vancouver.

The Hawks are going to be very good for a few years. They're a lot like the Caps were last season; highly entertaining, but will get overwhelmed (in my opinion) in the first round after a long playoff absence.

well probably because they didnt address the goaltending and defense which many people felt they needed to do.
Im glad they didnt get Morris. The only and I mean only way I would have been ok with it is if Alberts or Jones went the other way and capwise I dont think we could have made it work. The Rangers did deal away a expendable asset in Khalinin but I was shocked they parted with Dawes and to a lesser extent Prucha. I really like Dawes. I think he was misused in the Renney's system in NY.
I really wonder what Florida wanted from us for Bouwmeester. We heard the rumoprs of Carle,Lupul,JVR/1st. But I want to know what they were demanding. Maybe we will hear something in the near future from them, and not from Eklund or someone else.
I do hope some of the people give Carcillo a fair shake around here. Being that he was traded for a guy alot of people had a mancrush on I would hope people give him a chance. He deserves that.

SPEAKING

“They were offers that didn’t fulfill our needs. I wanted two players in return, a defenseman who could play in our top four. Some teams thought their defense could play in our top four. Obviously, I didn’t.”—Florida general manager Jacques Martin after passing on trade offers for star defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.

Obvious reference to Jones &/or Carle??

Nice call....I've been hoping for Carcillo for a while but didn't expect him delivered yesterday. I'm very much with some of the other posters on Upshall, he was one of my favorite Flyers and it's sad to see someone with that much passion leave due to the business of the game. Especially when he costs so little compared to a guy like Lupes. Our well known cap deficiencies put us behind the eight ball yesterday, too bad Scotty had to be the victim.
