Not quite the Boston-Anaheim deal for a defenseman people were hoping for

What the heck? I think Nokelainen would have fetched something else, more valuable. What is Montador bringing to Boston that they dont already have?

Don't really know a lot about Nokelainen, but Montador has been pretty solid for Anaheim.

Montador's good friends with Andy Ference I believe, pretty decent 3rd pairing d-man too with some grit. I like Nokelainen too though so pretty even trade I'd say.

He's good. Very underrated. I'm not too thrilled about this, but my knowledge on Nokelainen is pretty limited, so I'll have to wait. But I like this deal for the Bruins a lot.

What I've seen Montador has been really solid for Ducks. Seems like good add to Boston.

with Nokelainen signed through to 2010, I wonder what this says about upcoming UFAs Pahlsson, Moen, Marchant and R. Niedermayer

So they were eying Montador the whole time...

nokelainen is a former 1st rounder whose development in NYI was hampered by injuries. He's sound defensively and doesn't mind entering the dirty areas on the ice. Not much offensive upside.

Boston fans can confirm my assesment.

Nokie plain outright sux but will hustle, Montador is a third paring d-man, of which we have a whole bunch: Hnidy, Stuart, Hunwick...Chia knows better, but this move leaves me

Sure can. He'll probably top out as a 3rd line energy guy, motor is always running. Might be able to pot you 10 goals or so in the future. Anaheim fans will like him, I hate to see him go.

Anyone have any info on Montador?

In no way should Montador be compared to Hnidy. Not even close. Montador is a really good player.

Granted he was playing hurt this year (isn't he always hurt?) you can't be seriously regretting his departure. Waive him bye-bye, if seen in Boston, offer him a ride to Logan.

Have you seen Hnidy this year? He was our best d-man last year in the beginning of the Montreal series, he is rock solid in third pairing, deserves every minute spent on the ice.

A really solid defensive guy. Can shoot the puck and does so at times. Willing to drop the gloves. One of our better players this season and an absolute steal at $800k.
